Born in a joyous and pompous Punjabi family, Happy Kukreja has always been true to his name. An accounts major from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Happy had a normal life with a job to take care of immediately after his college. But, during his days in Grant Thornton, life hit him hard. He got diagnosed with tuberculosis and things took a sharp turn in his life. We spoke to Happy Kukreja to know more about his story as part of the Real Steel series sponsored by Tata Steel.

Working as a Risk Advisory associate, Happy used to travel and interact with a lot of people on a daily basis. When he got diagnosed with Tuberculosis, the first thing that came to his mind was it was due to the adverse effects of the infamous Delhi pollution. But, that was not the case, as pointed out by the doctors and it might have been from a different carrier that he got it. The disease made him weaker and it was difficult to continue working at his company.
Life took a turn when he had to start adjusting his schedule around the disease. It reached a point where he could not do things that used to make him happy and active. It is at this point that he decided that he is not going to give in to the situation. He decided to use this time to prepare himself for his B-school prep, which he was considering for quite some time. He used his recovery days to the fullest and prepared for XAT.
And as luck favors the brave, Happy got through to XLRI and started pursuing his MBA. Taking good care of his health and following a good diet Happy has once again put his life on track. Tata Steel looks for people who don’t bog down by the challenges thrown at them in life and always come up with an answer.
Tell us in the comment section below your thoughts about Happy’s journey and if you think it is easy to achieve your dreams if you have a focused approach in life.
