About TISSNET 2020:

Registration for TISS NET 2020 began from October 18, 2019. The last date to apply online is November 30, 2019 and the last date to apply by post is December 3, 2019.  TISS conducts TISSNET for admission to its 53 Masters’ Degree Programs offered at its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses and other locations for the 2020-2022 batch. Candidates may apply for a maximum of three programmes across any of the two campuses indicating the order of preference. The merit list is prepared based on the preferences given by the candidate in the application form. MA in Human Resource Management and Labor Relations, MA in Social Entrepreneurship, MA in Organisational Development, Change, and Leadership and MA in Globalization and Labor are the most sought after programs offered by TISS. There are 21 schools and 45 centres offering a variety of programmes under the TISS banner. TISSNET consists of objective type questions. TISSNET is a computer based exam. It consists of 100 questions across 3 sections - GK, QA-LR and English. TISS has recently announced that highest weightage will be given to the GK section and there will be a sectional cut-off of 35% on the GK section. This approximately comes to 14 marks in the section. This translates to - if you haven’t scored more than 14 marks in the GK section, you’ll not be shortlisted for the next round.

Special Notice For HRM Applicants:

The shortlisting and selection process at TISS in previous years followed a time tested strategy. The TISSNET was the first round. Next came the PIT or Pre Interview Test and GD rounds followed by Personal Interviews. But for their 2020-2022 HRM batch, TISS has introduced a new exam. This time, after writing the TISSNET, HRM applicants will have to write the TISSMAT (TISS Management Aptitude Test). This will take place immediately after TISSNET on the same day. But it will contribute to the stage 2 score of the candidate. To explain this further, stage one of the selection will purely depend on your TISSNET scores.  Once you reach stage 2 of the selection process and are shortlisted for the pre-interview test, the final selection will take into account your TISSMAT score.

TISS Final Selection Criteria For HRM

TISS Final Merit List Weightage Components Percentage of Weightage awarded in final admission offer
TISSMAT 30%
PIT / GD 40%
PI 30%
Total 100%
Your TISSNET scores will not be a parameter in the 2nd stage or final selection. Instead, it will be your TISSMAT score.

About TISSMAT

There are 3 sections in TISSMAT -  Each section will be for 15 marks. There will be negative marking for TISSMAT. This means each correct answer will fetch 1 mark and each wrong answer will result in 0.25 negative marks. The TISSMAT will be for 45 marks with a duration of 30 minutes.

How To Prepare For The TISSNET

The best strategy to crack the TISSNET is a result-oriented strategy. The best way to crack TISSNET is by preparing 2-3 months in advance. While you can simultaneously study for TISSNET while preparing for other MBA entrance exams, you should also keep in mind that TISSNET prep is a little different from other exams like CAT, NMAT, etc. since it focuses more on analytical ability and general knowledge. Quantitative aptitude and data interpretation are the subsections in analytical ability.

Conclusion - Author’s Note

This announcement comes just a few months before TISSNET. This change to the TISS HRM selection process is an interesting development for aspirants.    If TISS is your dream b-school, you need to buck up and take a few pages off CAT prep strategies. The TISSMAT brings a new level of difficulty for aspirants who are hoping to get into TISS for HRM. Adding to all this is the negative marking introduced for TISSMAT.   TISSNET has never followed the negative marking trend that different other entrance exams espouse. But this time around, the 0.25 negative marking for a wrong answer means that you’ll also have to work on your strategy and adapt it accordingly.   If you’ve been preparing for CAT 2019 though, and your strategy for CAT is en pointe, you could take this in your stride pretty easily. Best of luck for your preparations!   Meanwhile, here’s a few reads from the InsideIIM archives to help you prep for TISSNET and hopefully TISSMAT as well: Roadway To TISS | How I Cracked TISSNET 2019 On Acing The TISSNET How To Crack TISSNET | TISS Mumbai Students On TISSNET Prep All You Need To Know About Preparing For TISSNET
