My college SIBM, Pune the flagship college of the group resides in Lavale, Pune away from the hustle-bustle of the city atop a lush green hill. It gets hard to explain the beauty of it to someone who’ve not witnessed it himself (probably one of the times when you are at a loss of words). Believing the rumours and the things that you can check on the internet, one can place a safe bet that the campus is a class apart. When you drive towards the campus through the city, gradually the urban clamour vanishes away and you slowly start finding yourself heading towards a hoarding boldly glowing during the nights and welcoming you to the SYMBIOSIS campus.
The colossal campus differentiates itself by hosting a fleet of colleges starting from engineering, media communication, culinary arts, banking and finance, sports sciences, telecom management among others which you can easily notice at different levels as you make your climb through hair-pin bends towards SIBM which sits at the top. Once at the top, the clouds come to greet you and make you feel that the Khandala trip you missed couldn’t have been any better. The fresh air, the occasional chirping of the birds, the greenery, the fountains and the waterfall on one hand in very inviting and on the other very intoxicating.
The campus, being the family of institutions it is, holds its motto of ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam’ (Sanskrit for - The Whole World Is A Family) very close and gives you an opportunity of even catching someone from some other part of the world while you have your piping-hot cup of coffee in the mess or flex your muscles in the state-of-the-art sports facilities.
The college being on the hill also has its obvious disadvantages like the shortage of water but the great minds that harbor in the institute addressed the issue through a watershed project which doesn’t let the precious drops run-away. In a way, driving the point to be innovative while staying at the top.
As you move around, you find different points overlooking the Pune sprawling. It gives you a different perspective from a birds’ eye view, the holistic outlook a budding leader should try and inculcate. You can appreciate the magnificence of how the city works and toils through the day and sparkles during the night. They say that beauty is to be beheld but I say everyone will find something to behold here in Lavale.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to work in the Supply Chain department of Pantaloons Fashion Retail which is the largest branded apparel company by sales and number of stores in the country. More so because of the immense scope for growth in the under-tapped geographies, the GST providing a level-playing field to the organized sector and also due to increased expenditure habit of the middle class. Since the segment is such that in order to remain relevant, the stores need to continuously refresh themselves, I see a tremendous scope of growth if you can transpose your agility with its operations.
