Because Big Is In Small Things- Shubhankar Aggarwal, NMIMS Mumbai

Being an introverted, shy and reserved personality, I was neither good at holding small talks nor with initiating talks. Getting into a B-school was a challenging job for me especially when my peers were so fluent and good with their communication skills. Moreover, belonging to a small town further reduced my confidence as I fumbled while speaking in English. Being low on confidence was a major deterrent to me. Lack of maturity and mixing professional and personal lives further complicated things for me. Working on my mind set, asking help from people, joining various public speaking platforms, travelling alone and taking initiative at my own helped me to be where I am today. From not being able to speak a single word in front of public to clearing almost all coveted b-school’s GD-PI processes was one huge chapter of my life. Amidst all these ups downs and failures, I realized the importance of health, though in a tough way. Being admitted in Fortis for a month due to my bad eating habits gave me time to think and contemplate my life. It was then I took major lessons on importance of health and education, it was then when I learnt to draw boundaries on my personal and professional life. Though failure has been a constant companion in my life but at the same time I have underwent a drastic transformation both mentally and physically.

Why Aditya Birla Group is Big in my life?

Big is massive. Big is microscopic, but mostly, big is indispensable. With its operations in 35 countries and more than 1,20,000 employees ABG is everywhere around us from Bandra-Worli Sea Link (UltraTech Cement) to the clothes we wear (Louis Philippe, Grasim, Allen Solly). It was February 6th and wearing Vanheusen Suit for the first time provided much needed confidence to otherwise trembling low on confidence boy who had his most important interview that day. Seeing my peers dressed in Louis Phillipe and Grasim suits and waiting to give their best further made me nervous. However, eating the breakfast wrapped in Hindalco Freshwrapp foil reminded me of all the struggle my mother has put in to make me reach here. My father selling all those gunny sacks of Birla Balwan and working hard day and night for my education and receiving messages on my Vodafone number from my friends added all the confidence in me. The stage was set and ABG being my constant companion helped me to clear the most important interview of my life. Today sitting in NMIMS library and dreaming to work with Aditya Birla Capital may seem farfetched. But the dreams like these make you give your 100% and work harder each day and make us believe that the big is in all the small things just as Aditya Birla Group.
