“Indian Institute of Management” or in short IIM needs no introduction, the name speaks for its own. There is a notion that if you do not have an MBA degree from IIM then you are also one among many other people having an engineering degree hoping for a bright future; more like a pushover.
But graduating from an IIM is like carving your own niche, more like earning a special respect among our peers. Like most of the students, I too dreamt of having a brand name in my resume. Having secured 85 percentile in my CAT exam, I was overwhelmed when I was able to convert not one but three IIM’s, namely IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur and IIM Jammu.
Being in a dilemma of which one to choose, I extensively started searching the net. I was happy to know that IIM Kashipur is the first campus to have a 200 acres campus with a lush green garden and accommodation facility. The placements are descent, one of the best as compared to the other new IIM’s with an average package of ₹12.19 lakh. Having an own licensed film screening auditorium, a bikers club, graffiti paintings, trips to the national park, setting up a community radio for local people etc; the college is a home for new ideas and innovation. All of these achieved in just five years time! This, however, is one of the stand-alone qualities as compared to other IIM’s.
Keeping the pros aside, I was initially concerned about its location. Being in a remote area in Kashipur with no connectivity to airport worried me. Hailing from Tamil Nadu and not knowing Hindi, just added to my woes.
But I saw it as an opportunity. I thought that I would have a great exposure, where I would meet people from different parts of India, and even learn a new language. Though the location is remote, in my personal opinion location takes a back seat compared to the quality of education, and IIM Kashipur has a reputation for producing the finest graduates. In addition to it, there are operational plants of Parle, Titan, Mahindra, Dabur etc. thereby having a lot of scope of multidisciplinary learning and application of management. Having spanned such great heights in a short span of time, I am confident that conversion of the location into a smart city is not far behind.
Now, I am finally here. I have come to realize that I have made a right decision and am going to have a great time here. With renowned professors, guest lectures, internships, case studies, development of interpersonal skills, I believe that I am being made to push my limits, and being moulded so as to make me future ready.

If I get a chance to work with the Aditya Birla group, I would like to work with Aditya Birla Capital. ABC is a financial sector venture of Aditya Birla group and provides financial and wealth management solutions and is ranked as one of the top five largest private diversified NBFCs in India. One thing which attracts me is their ideology to serve every individual, irrespective of their financial status, help them finance their dream and fulfill their needs and desires. I too want to serve people, and would one day like to carry their ideology forward.
