Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life

“The culture of caring and giving permeates many Indian families. In their own way, they are engaged in philanthropic pursuits”

                                                                                                                                                                             - Kumar Mangalam Birla

There is a general perception that big conglomerates are only concerned about their profits and losses and their balance sheets, but little do people perceive about the overall influence and development they have in community initiatives and rural development in India. I was stranded in Nagpur, one hot sultry afternoon, when I had a chitchat with one of the villagers there. He was quite proud and beaming with joy ,as he narrated how his son and several other youths from his village had taken trainings in computer, electronic and electrical repairs at a Multi Skill Multi Sector Training Centre set up by the Aditya Birla Skills Foundation and is now working in Mumbai and is thus the sole bread earner of his family. And the buck did not even stop there. He also informed that his village has been chosen as one of the 300 villages in India to be transformed into an Adarsh gram or a model village in a five-year timeframe by the Aditya Birla Group. “Stronger. Together. For You” thus is not only Vodafone’s theme but the motto of Aditya Birla Group and they are proving it in each step.

As I step away on my way to college in Mumbai on an Uber via the Bandra- Worli Sea Link. I understand why Ultratech Cement is definitely “The Engineer’s Choice” as I realized that 0.1 million metric tons of Ultratech Cement went into the construction of this magnanimous structure and I felt quite safe in my Uber as I knew my car had Birla Carbon, which made tyres safer, fuel efficient and more sustainable.

Though I am not interested in trading and financial services still a noob like me knows that Aditya Birla Capital Limited, one of the largest Asset Management Companies in India provides end to end financial services not only to corporate customers like me, but also to retail customers.

It’s a new city for me and us, Bengalis love to flaunt. On my way back home, I planned to check out the latest fashion trends in this city.  And it was an obvious choice, who else than the market leader in fashion, Pantaloons? From the simple striped formals of Peter England to the Graphic tees of Forever 21, I loved it all. And guess what? All of this from the same house of Fashion, the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited.

Coming back home, I was a little disturbed when I read about the current water crisis in different parts of India and how environmental damage is slowly taking a toll on us. But, then, to my utter contentment, I read on the internet about how Aditya Birla is working on several areas towards sustainability, towards a greener, cleaner and healthier future.

"The Future is exciting. Ready? "

How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far

When I joined TCS I was an introvert, rather shy of speaking up to my peers and my managers and hence I had a lot of problem in business meetings where I felt I could not put forward in any ideas in any discussion. Though it was always a friendly and encouraging environment I could not pitch in my ideas more accurately, with clarity and was always shying with inhibitions. When this continued for a quite some time, I counselled with my mangers and our Project HR who told me about the public speaking forum Toastmasters. Coming to toastmasters I participated in speech and table topics everyday where I had to give impromptu speeches on any topic and interacted with the various members in TM clubs. Thus, working on my oratory skills and gaining confidence I slowly lost the inhibitors in me. Within 3 years of my work experience, I have now become a team lead of 6 members from a team member and have successfully participated with my mangers in bringing new clients for our project. Also, this once shy boy has become the club VP-PR of our TMKTC club.

The most significant achievement of my life was when I won the second runner up in Humorous speech contest. From having a fear of glossophobia, not able to articulate everything and stammering it has been a complete transformation for me over the last three years joining Toastmasters. I had set up a challenge within myself to win a laurel during the International Speech contests and winning the 3rd prize justified my hard work all these months.
