The Ascent: From Economics to IIM Calcutta and Beyond
Devraj’s path has been marked by a steady progression built on curiosity and precision. An Economics graduate with a flair for numbers and strategy, he consistently sought out experiences that deepened both his analytical and managerial capabilities. His professional journey spans diverse roles — from consulting with entrepreneurs across geographies at Eprenz PBC, to optimizing multi-brand inventory flows at Ronak Optik, and designing strategic frameworks at Hinduja Renewables Energy.
At Hinduja Renewables, part of the Hinduja Group, Devraj created the company’s first-ever Employee Value Proposition, a project that blended data analysis with human understanding. With no existing blueprint to follow, he built the framework from scratch — interviewing employees, analyzing qualitative inputs, and linking them to measurable business outcomes like cost reduction, retention, and brand perception. The final model was not only adopted by leadership but also earned him a Pre-Placement Offer, validating both his methodical approach and his ability to create original, high-impact work.
Currently, Devraj is pursuing his MBA at IIM Calcutta while also representing the institute internationally as an incoming CEMS MiM student at the University of Economics in Prague. His selection for the program underscores his global mindset and readiness to operate in cross-cultural, high-performance environments. Alongside his academic pursuits, he has cleared CFA Level 1 and FRM Part 1, demonstrating a disciplined approach to building deep financial expertise.
For Devraj, numbers are only half the story. His true strength lies in connecting financial insights to human motivations — a skill that has shaped his academic choices, internships, and leadership roles.
The Inner Core: Adaptability, Listening, and Persistence
Across every project and institution, Devraj has consistently shown the ability to adapt, listen, and persist. His adaptability has been tested in varied contexts — from working with global founders at Eprenz PBC to managing on-ground operations with multiple factories at Ronak Optik, to driving strategic HR design at Hinduja Renewables. Each role demanded a different toolkit, and in each, he learned to integrate quickly and deliver results.
Listening is another core strength that defines his leadership style. In his words, “Many people share what they think you want to hear — real insights come when you listen to what they actually mean.” This attentiveness has helped him extract nuanced perspectives from colleagues, clients, and employees, and to build frameworks that reflect reality rather than assumption.
Persistence completes this triad. At Hinduja Renewables, some of his initial ideas for the EVP were rejected. Instead of stepping back, he refined the framework repeatedly until it resonated with both employees and leadership. This commitment to iteration — to learning from what doesn’t work — has become a defining trait in his professional identity.
Beyond corporate and academic life, Devraj channels his empathy through initiatives that make a tangible social impact. One such example is Straytect, a project he started under Parasdham Youth, a subgroup of the Arham Yuva Seva Group. After witnessing a near-miss road accident involving a stray dog, he took it upon himself to create a solution — organising volunteers, raising funds, and executing a city-wide drive to tie reflective collars on stray dogs to prevent nighttime accidents. The initiative continues to inspire awareness around urban safety and empathy toward animals, showing how leadership can begin with small, thoughtful action.
The Employable Edge in a Tech-Driven, Human-Centred World
In today’s AI-augmented world, Devraj’s employable edge lies in his ability to frame problems clearly. While technology can process data and generate insights, he understands that the true differentiator is in asking the right questions. At Hinduja Renewables, what began as an open-ended HR task became a structured business problem once he reframed it to connect employee experience with financial outcomes. The clarity of that framing not only guided his analysis but also helped leadership make actionable decisions.
This approach — combining logic with empathy — defines his contribution across domains. Whether building dashboards to simplify complex data or facilitating discussions that align diverse teams, Devraj bridges the analytical and the human, ensuring that strategy remains practical and people-focused.
His upcoming stint at the University of Economics in Prague as part of the CEMS MiM program further strengthens this global, integrative perspective. Elected as the Head of Finance for the CEMS Club Prague, Devraj manages budgets, tracks expenses, and makes data-backed decisions that sustain the club’s operations. It’s a real-world extension of his philosophy: that leadership is not just about vision, but about managing detail with accountability and care.
For future employers, Devraj Shah represents the next generation of leaders who can think analytically, act empathetically, and adapt globally. He combines structured problem-solving with deep listening, financial discipline with creativity, and ambition with a sense of purpose — a combination that makes him not just employable, but enduringly impactful.
