It’s been more than a year since I joined IIM Kashipur. The drive from Delhi to Kashipur is still very much intact in my memory. The wait and earnest longingness to be in the place, which is going to be your abode for the next two years can really make one impatient. It was no different for me. Situated in the midst of nature, engulfed by greenery is IIM Kashipur.
Away from the hustle and bustle of city, it seems a quiet place from the outside. But, once you enter the campus, you get to relive those school days with students from all parts of the country. A mini India in itself. The entire infrastructure contrasts the greenery because of its red brick walls. You can also find near circles of various dimensions in the buildings, which is a photographer’s delight. As a student of this institute, there is much more that one can experience.
When the entire world is pondering how to curb pollution and people are sweltering in the ever-soaring temperatures, we dwell in our cool campus situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. Add to this, the innovative radiant cooling system that keeps our hostels cool in summer and warm in winter months. Biodiversity in and around the campus is what makes it the most unique. Some say that we have a location disadvantage, but I believe it’s a blessing in disguise. It has kept us close to nature and we can feast our eyes on the diverse flora and fauna present here. Nearby destinations like Hrishikesh, Haridwar, Bhimtal, Ranikhet, Mussoorie, Jim Corbett National Park are a traveller’s delight.
Life is certainly pretty busy in a B-School, from early morning classes, case studies, presentations, guest lectures till preparation of next day’s pre-reads. We have some of the best academicians of the country teaching, counselling and preparing us for future endeavours. Amidst this rigorous schedule, we still find time to pursue our favourite sport on our campus which is well equipped with the required facilities for almost every sport. We work hard, party harder. We celebrate each and every festival, keeping aside the differences in religion or ethnicity. IIM Kashipur is one of the few campuses in India, where Sunburn is hosted and that is some event where we lose ourselves completely, letting go of any stress or academic pressure.
We are one of the six new IIMs, but we have come a long way since our inception in 2011. There have been startups founded by alumni, multiple student bodies helping the administration in smooth functioning of the institute, nurturing biodiversity and looking after the less fortunate ones through our social front managed by students. The experiences that I have had in the past year are worth a lifetime and I am looking forward to many more to come.
