“Wake up!”
Three knocks on the door and I dragged myself out of the bed with sleepy eyes. Then, looking at the clock, realization dawned upon me. Just 10 minutes left to reach the sports ground. Else, a big round of bashing from the seniors…..
Well, this has been the routine ever since I stepped here in IIM Kashipur – classes, induction tasks, batch meets with seniors and stringent deadlines. At first, it seemed too much, but then you get used to it. You learn to adapt to it; you learn to manage time better, to handle the stress and to work together as a team. And once the induction gets over, you understand that it was all worthwhile. You are now ready for the two years that lie ahead. Life in the campus looks beautiful now. And why not? The campus is really great.
IIM Kashipur has a 200-acre campus outside the humdrum of the town. And if you are like me, someone who has lived among the cacophony of Kolkata all these years, this would be a welcome change. The rustic life outside, combined with the hustle and bustle of MBA inside the campus makes it a unique experience. Talking about the amenities, they are plentiful. The classrooms are as modernized as possible, with biometric attendance registry, projectors as a teaching aid, etc. Our campus has enough space and facilities for games and sports. Our hostel is also worth mentioning. We are allotted single rooms. Radiant cooling keeps it comfortable. Our library has a vast collection of resources, both in hard copy, as well as online.
But all these are amenities that make our stay great. They are part of the campus, but not what makes up the campus. The campus is formed, not by amenities, but by the culture, the students, their relationship with the faculty – things that enrich the lives of all who live here. We have seniors who are just like elder brothers and sisters. They help us always, guide us along the way ahead, and scold us when we get complacent. Moreover, they really want us to succeed and be great managers in the future. The faculty is always approachable. Since all live in the campus, time of the day doesn’t put a hold on education. We even have classes late at night! Everything out here, apart from key administrative duties, is run and managed by students. This includes induction, event organizing, guest lectures, placements, and even running of the student mess! And all of this makes the campus unique and makes me proud of being a student here.
Which Aditya Birla Group Company I would like to work for and why?
I am really interested in marketing as a subject and want to work in this field in the future. I want to make a career out of brand management. For that reason, Aditya Birla Retail Ltd suits my career goals. It is the fourth largest supermarket chain in the country, operating two different store formats – Supermarket and Hypermarket under the brand “more.” It has about 590 supermarkets and 23 hypermarkets around the country. It also provides online grocery retail services in Bangalore, NCR, and Pune through its e-Commerce website MyMoreStore. All this makes it a company I would want to work for.
