PEOPLE FASHION AND ACCESSORIES: NEW BEL ROAD, DEVASANDRA, BANGALORE

This particular People store has been a huge part of my engineering life. It is said that one makes the best of friends during one’s life as a graduate. This is true in my case as well, and the first place we visited as a group was this particular People store during a sale. Being the girls we were back then, with a lot of time but limited cash, we made the most out of that sale and stocked our closet with clothes and accessories for every occasion, be it casuals, ethnic wear, or be it bags for college, scarves to be worn with plain solid tops, we had them all after that sale.

The wide range of clothing available and at a reasonable price is what made People our go to store to shop at every possible occasion. We were a gang of 6 girls, and we were really excited about our first trip to Gokarna and again the only place we went and flocked for our shopping needs was our very own People store.

Birthday, Farewell, Rakshabandhan gifts for all whose presence I absolutely cherish in my life used to be from this particular store. In due time the store cashier and helpers started recognizing us as their loyal and regular customers and that only improved our experience with the store.

Many of my firsts started with People. For instance, I got acquainted with the concept of tote bags for the first time at People and carrying a tote bag everywhere definitely decreased the number of plastic bags used by me. My first gift to my elder sister with my first salary was from this store.

The experience and memories attached with that particular outlet has carved a very special place in my heart for this brand. After staying for four years in New Bel road I moved to Marathahalli, Bangalore and then back to my home town Durgapur, West Bengal. Everywhere People has been my first go to place to let my shopping needs meet the widest range of apparels and accessories.

I have had the best shopping experience at People, with the best people in my life and for the best people in my life. I don’t think so there could have been a more appropriate name for a brand such as People.

After I moved from New Bel Road to Marathahalli a lot of things in my life started changing me and they have shaped me to become the person I am today. One of those things being my life at Accenture. That life has made me realize not only about what I am good at but also about what I am not that good at.

Starting with what I am not good at: Coding. This is a word which has tested me time and again ever since my graduation days. I have always struggled my way through subjects like Data Structures. It always used to take me more time than my peers to understand even the most basic things in data structures. The semester progressed and so did the pace and difficulty level of the subject. At one point in the semester due to time constraints, I even had mugged up 10 to 12 pages of codes just to pass the internal test, but as expected, it just takes one mistake to mess up an entire piece of code if one mugs it up. That very day Prof. Shobha K.R (my Data Structures lecturer) called me to her cabin and gave a very basic advice: “If you want to do well in engineering, mug up anything but not codes”. From that day onwards I started putting in genuine time and effort into that subject, it definitely took me more time than what my classmates used to take, but I passed Data Structures in my third semester with an A grade.

Cut to three years later. I was facing a very similar situation in Accenture. I was trained and deployed in an SAP ABAP technical project. With immense help and support from my team and some sincere efforts from my side I definitely did complete each and every task assigned to me with full conviction, but it started making me realize one thing that with sincere attempts I might become an expert coder, but if at the same time I put in these sincere efforts into something which comes naturally to me, it might make my life a bit easier. It is then when I learnt a lesson about what I am good at, and that is my ability to connect with people. All through my life till now I have been fortunate enough to have successfully dealt with different people owing to one thing i.e. my approachability. Hence here I am today pursuing Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management from MDI, Gurgaon. I hope that I will be able to tap into my soft skills and couple them with the knowledge & experience I am and will be receiving on this campus and make a successful HR manager one day. Hence, I owe a lot to my time at Accenture, as it had tested me a lot but at the same time it did provide me with the answer to those challenges as well. Through practice my coding skills did become decent but not good enough for me to continue in that sector. Therefore, one thing I definitely did learn from this phase of my life is that: Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great."
