This story is of a kid, who got inspired from a very unique tagline by Aditya Birla Group. His father was into construction business. He was 11, when one fine day during his vacations he happened to visit a site where construction work was ongoing. There were bricks, mud, steel, cement and a lot of other building materials. But all of a sudden, there was something written on a cement bag, that caught his attention. It was, “Ultratech Cement – The Engineer’s Choice”. The kid asked his father, who is an engineer? His father smiled and explained him that whatever he is seeing around him, those buildings, road, bridges, cars etc., everything has been designed by an engineer. The kid was left awe amazed. He seemed to have a whole new world opened in front of him. He told his father that he will become an engineer. That one line written over a cement bag, gave him a purpose in his life.
He started learning more and more about what engineers do and how to become an engineer. He was in for all it took to become an engineer. Overnight studies, sacrificing gaming sessions and what not. But this all paid back when he secured admission in one of the most prestigious college of the country and spent 4 most wonderful, enlightening and delightful years of his life there. Today, sitting in his hostel room at IIFT, while writing this article, Aditya Birla Group once again left its mark by giving him the opportunity to go down the memory lane and cherish those marvelous moments from his childhood.
After having living his dream of becoming an engineer, it was time for him to enter the real world. He started working in one of the India’s largest conglomerates as techno-commercial officer. He was given 15 days to learn about the products and hit the market. This was something new to him. This was his opportunity to prove himself. He needed to be confident, to be able to carry himself and go head first into this challenge with much needed confidence. He had always dreamt of how he would wear those executive outfits and attend his meetings. He had purchased one of those white linen formal shirts that caught the attention of the regular folks. But for him, it was much more than a simple white shirt. He always believed in making the mark at first meeting and this shirt by “Van Huesen” was his confidence booster.
Then came the D-day, his first day on customer visits after learning what all was expected of him; from that one day where he met 5 customers, to winning the Employee Recognition Award for going extra mile for his customers, within the period of 18 months, he never looked back. He used to feature frequently in the list of people with most number of customer visits and business development initiatives. He went on and on, setting up targets for himself throughout his life and now he wishes to become an efficient manager and an inspiring leader. Aditya Birla has been one of those constants in his life that always stood by him.
