“We didn’t realize we were making memories,

We just knew we were having fun”

Even stupidity has its own merits. You can go back on those memories and have a good laugh. The whole of section C of IIM Trichy batch of 19 gathered to create the stupidest video that could be created. It was the time of MBA when sections of the junior batch compete against each other for the ultimate prize a man can ever get……. GLORY!!!!

People are tested on their hard-gained skills like singing, dancing, acting and all the other traits that can make you celebrity (if not a real one, at least an Instagram celebrity). There is also one omnipresent trait that gets certified during these section wars- the collective stupidity of sixty MBA grads.

Our section, Section C, had already given a glimpse into our lunacy by naming the section Cwag (intended as a pun to Swag but ended up as see-wag). Our next biggest chance to demonstrate our idiocy was a competition to create a viral video. Geared with every bit of trash we could find and dressed in a most disorganized fashion we marched towards our classroom which we had finalized as our shooting destination.

It was a rare sight when one could see ‘future professional managers’ wearing sleeveless t-shirts with dhotis and side-caps. The extent to which people can imagine dressing weirdly was demonstrated amply and the classroom had a colourful demeanour for the first time. There were colourful umbrellas, hockey sticks, punk caps, crazy sneakers, dumbbells, punching bags and many more eccentric props.

The planning of the video took a very long time but one particular guy had the most idiotic idea where we start of the video with the mannequin challenge to mock the other sections (since all the others were doing creative mannequin videos), declare that we are different and start with a remake of a viral video/meme which had amassed a lot of fame and was titled ‘sot lagani hai’. All the memsters hailed glory to the captain and we started the shooting. After multiple takes and lots of
cuss words, the shooting was finally done. It had taken almost three hours to complete the planning and shooting when I truly started believed in George Carlin’s words, “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups”.

We edited and tried to make the video as beautiful as possible and finally uploaded it a couple of minutes before deadline. Half an hour later we were told that we are disqualified because we had used the classroom without permission and the audio had profane language (lots of it). The best part though was that nobody was sad about the disqualification. All of us had really enjoyed the evening. We tried to make a crazy video and what would have been crazier than getting disqualified. It was one of the few times when we stayed awake in a classroom for more than three hours and it was a memory we would probably never forget.

Which ABG company I would like to work for?

Aditya Birla Capital is the company within the Aditya Birla Group that excites me the most. After my internship in the domain of M&A advisory, I am keen on working in asset management or equity research. ABCL with its wide array of financial services in which it operates is a perfect platform for me to pursue my interests and excel at them.

My pre-MBA work experience at Futures First as a market analyst in US STIR markets gave me a realistic perspective of the financial services industry which was further reinforced during my MBA summer internship. My experience and interests align perfectly to kick-start my career at ABCL.
