How ABG transformed me ?

ABG- the modern stalwart in the Indian market, encompassing such a wide array of products that we can’t ignore its impact in our daily life. I remember growing up in a Middle-class family, on the outskirts of Kolkata. To the people in the city of Joy, Durga puja was, is and always will be an occasion where people spend most of their earnings to look and feel good; to stand out in the crowd of innumerable. I used to go out on shopping with my parents and would stand in awe at the grandeur of the Van Heusen clothings, displayed at the upscale stores. To say the least, I dreamt of owning them once. 15 years down the line, having had almost 3 years of corporate experience and joining SJMSOM, I had a fair share of my fortune. From dreaming about owning the apparels, I somehow ended up wearing them. From Peter England’s ever-changing designs and innovations to Louis Philippe’s elegance at an office presentation; from wearing Allen Solly’s trendy apparels to buying Forever 21’s mesmerizing dress for my better half, I grew up. Looking back, it would really be rather impossible to pick out formal apparels which I own, that isn’t a part of the ABG. With the recent opening of a Pantaloons store in my locality, the horizon of opportunities has expanded manifolds to own a garment that suits my need and liking.

Travelling back in time again, I remember our single-storey home undergoing a renovation and vertical expansion in the early 2000s. I remember hurrying back from my school, running up to the then-under-construction roof, grabbing some sheets of empty bags to sit and watch the workers work through the day till the orange hue of sunset hit the sky. Now when I try to remember those days, the ‘Ultratech’ brand inevitably comes up in my mind. The bags that I grabbed to sit with my dad and those that were stored in the storeroom had that unique black and yellow logo. ABG, thus has been deeply interweaved in my process of growing up and its presence in my life has been massive.

My Success Story

I have been into sports since my childhood days and like any other Indian kids, I used to play gully cricket whenever and wherever I could. We had a group of around 15 boys, a nuisance to the entire locality. Every day or the other, there would be a complain to my parents that I had broke someone’s window and it needed to be fixed. However, never did I see a hint of anger on my dad’s face when it came to nuisances caused by me while playing. As one my closest friend had joined a Table Tennis academy, I got admitted too. That’s when my love affair with the game started. I used to find any spare time I could, sneaked out of my house and went to the club’s playing room to play TT. I became good at it and my trainer, Mr. Shibashish, suggested my parents to take it seriously. The next year, in 2007, I participated in District level competition and became the runners up. I started going to the District training centre to train with professional players. I shifted to a new school in 2009. During the summers of 2010, I got the opportunity to represent my State. I was elated, to say the least. I met with my trainer who scheduled a couple of rigorous training sessions before the tournament. The only hindrance was that, the first day of my competition clashed with one of my School’s Rehearsal exam papers. I requested the concerned person, but without any success. Our Principal, Mr. Paul, who somehow knew about my achievements in the recent years, told that he would attend one of my practice sessions and would then give a thought to it. I knew I had to impress him and so I trained as if it was my last day. He was visibly happy and arranged a date to shift my exam. Thus, I was able to participate in the tournament and reach to the quarterfinals. This is my story of overcoming a challenge to fulfill my ambition.
