PART A : Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
Investing. A big word. Even bigger for a young student who is going to venture in to his first job and doesn’t know how to manage his own finances.
Right out of my under graduation I started working for a conglomerate construction company. I was skeptical that I will end up in the loop that many youngsters fall in to, the loop of just spending and not saving enough for the times to come. I contacted a few of my older cousins to get their advice, one of who is a financial advisor.
He made me understand the importance of in investing rather than just saving. I tried to understand something basic instead of stock markets and other higher means of investing and got into mutual fund. And the first mutual fund that I invested in the first ever investment that I made was in ‘Birla top 100 mutual fund’. It was a big decision for me at the time. I started with a small amount of 1500 and as I developed my trust in the brand birla I started to invest more in the SIP.
Here you actually don’t really need to understand a lot but trust the fund managers and thus choosing a good investment company with a brand matters a lot there. This gave me the idea to promote such an opportunity to the final year students at my college. As an alumni I got in touch with the college administration to get someone to explain the students the importance of investment and mutual funds. The college received an good response for the same and I know quite a few students do invest there.
They thank the college, I thank Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund.
PART B : ‘How I overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far’.
Probably the one mistake that I truly regret is taking science in my 12th board exams when I did knew that I was not remotely good at it. The result that I had in my boards has been horrifying me since years.
But when the time came to stand up to the expectations of my own it took a lot of effort and it did not take a lot of time to come.
Right after my 12th I changed my field and got in to BBA the field I was sure that I do love for marketing and business. Just at the commencement of my 2nd year I knew that I want to do an MBA from the top10 Bschools in India. I also understood that it will in all likeliness take a lot of effort owing to my 12th boards results.
Thus I started to plan well in advance, I took up a job with the single aim of learning as much as I can in 2 years and then take a sabbatical to give my CAT. It took a lot of har work and a lot of preparation especially for the interviews. And when the time came to face the question about my 12th marks I was prepared. The interviewers could see through me and understand that I have learnt and improved from my mistakes and am ready to get in to the Bschool and give my best towards this great institution
