Part A
Aditya Birla Group has touched the lives of millions without making them realise the touch points. The company is all pervasive and has excelled at every business that it undertakes, catering to customer till the last mile. With presence across 14 industries and innumerable reputable brands, I realized how big Aditya Birla group is in my life after I studied about the companies and brands post joining MBA.
Its the formals of Van Heusen I wear at NMIMS during formal events and that make ready and elegant for presentations and interviews. The Vodafone-Idea network that me and my family use keeps us connected at all times and in a new city, it has always given me best coverage and kept me going. The mutual funds that my father invests into, have provided consistent returns and has been a good investment opportunity for our family savings. The retail outlet Pantaloons, which is both my sister's and mother's favourite, provides them with a shopping therapy all under one roof. I distinctly remember when my house was being built six years ago, I went to the contractor with my grandfather and he gave clear instructions to use Ultratech cement. Such is the trust on Ultratech brand. I have also visited the Ultratech factory near Ahmedabad and was fascinated by the kind of innovation and technologies the plant was investing in. Many of my batchmates from engineering completed their internship at Ultratech and worked on automation for the plant. I was impressed by ABG’s focus on leveraging technology to solve traditional business problems.
ABG group present in various other sectors as well, touches the lives of a billion plus Indians, as it does it for me and my family. It is not just my generation, but Aditya Birla Group touches all generations of my family by creating value for us. In my opinion, the group has played an important role in the economic development of our country since the late 19th century and continues to do so even today. It has been a pioneer in making India's presence felt on a global map.
Part B
Since childhood, I was fascinated by technology and how it was transforming every aspect of our lives. As I turned 16, I made my mind to pursue engineering and decided to make this world a better place to live by leveraging technology. At that time, I wasn't too sure about which sector I would like to work in, so I decided to go forward with my interest in phones and telecommunication and pursue electronics and communication engineering. However, my father always dreamt of me sitting beside his chair and take our family business to new heights. This was a huge challenge for me as my father is my role model in life and I had to convince him about my career preferences which were conflicting with what he had thought for me. However, with a good academic performance and with the help of my teachers, I was finally able to convince him that taking up engineering would be a better chance for me. As I started with engineering, it didn't turn out to go well as I was too overwhelmed with personal and professional problems. Now was a bigger challenge to go back as all my confidence had shattered and I couldn't decide on a career path going forward. Hence, I joined my family business for a few months after finishing my engineering. That was the phase when I gathered all my courage back by reading and listening to motivational talks and adopt best practices to keep my mind and heart at peace. As I worked there, I got exposure and opportunity to explore all aspects of businesses and was finally able to narrow down on fields which I would want to work in. As I interacted with customers and managed the set up of a new factory, I decided to move on in my career and pursue MBA. Hence, I overcame my challenges and here I am specializing in Marketing to take my career forward.
