Founded over 160 years ago in a small village in Pilani, Rajasthan , ABG has come a long way to currently become India’s third largest private sector conglomerate. Historically ABG has been associated with the freedom struggle , setting up of Indian industry as well as putting India on the world map by becoming the first Indian Private multinational. ABG has been associated with my family since the generation of my grand fathers’. But what does the company do, that makes a difference? With over 160 years of heritage the name comes with an emotion. Guided by its mission , To provide superior value to customers , shareholders and employees, it goes the extra mile to show that the company cares about people and genuinely so. In my childhood I would hear great stories from my father , my grandfather adding along it,  about the Birla group going out of way to make things more comfortable for their employees. Perhaps that could be justified by the fact that it received the award for being “The Best Employer in India and among the top 20 in Asia” , probably because it cared. My father did so while he got ready for office wearing his Grasim suit. When you hear so many dazzling stories , you build a very noble and generous image of the entity in mind.

I am 24 now, I grew up watching the country grow right along with me and I see the Birla group marking its presence all along the journey from becoming a Fortune 500 company , being one the metal giants and one of the largest cement producer boosting Infrastructure in the country as well as across the world. In the retail garment and clothing industry also it is a big player. Similarly It has been with me all along my life as well, from the shorts and T’s brought from Pantaloons, to the wide variety of ethnic collection it carries in its Pantaloons outlets for all occasions. The premium suits of Van Heusen, the absolute royal Linen collection of Linen Club. The exquisite shirts of Peter England, almost all of my apparels have Birla tagged on them. I believe the ABG is going to be with the people for a long time.

Me. I am an Electronics engineer turned software developer turned MBA Student. A overlook on

on my life would seem pretty haphazard but then again it would not be very unnatural, because

doesn’t that sound a little familiar. That’s right. That’s what half the engineers do after all, or so

shows the statistics. So what is it in me that helps me distinguish myself from this extremely

competitive crowd. Well nothing but a tiny little trait. I act where the norms would dictate to

ignore and move on. It takes me efforts to move on. I feel that is a very powerful quality. I reside

in a small town of Mourigram in Howrah, West Bengal. This town is governed by a Gram

panchayat and not a municipality. Our home there faces a wide canal which has stagnant water ,

and this is only taken care of before assemble elections and panchayat elections. All residents of

the lane are troubled by the mosquitoes it harbours. One day my father was detected with early

stage malarial fever. It was then that I decided to take care of that with or without the help of

authorities. I collected a group of kids from the locality and in spite of our parents screaming at

us to no go into the drain and scavenge, we still did. And we started cleaning. This moved a lot

of people after some time and everyone gathered and the all the people of lane united for

discussion, which the children were a part of too. It was decided that as a first measure all the

resident will be contributing a certain sum , to hire a person to scavenge and clean the drains a

bit so that for starters the water is not stagnant at the least. This movement created awareness

amongst people and since then everyone had united for any problems in the neighbourhood.
