Part A) Tell us why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life? Research about ABG’s brands and the kind of work they have done in India and the world since independence.
Aditya Birla Group is one of the big names in India. It is an Indian multinational conglomerate, founded in 1857, touched billions in the world giving employment to more than 120,000 worldwide. India’s third largest private sector conglomerate is maintaining its name in the league of Fortune 500.
Be it the Ultratech Cement that goes into building infrastructure or the uninterrupted power supply ABG engulfs us in all dimensions. ABG’s association with telecom operators like Vodafone and Idea which works towards providing seamless network to its users shows ABG’s dedication in making an impact on each and every individual.
ABG’s greatest impact on my life has been through its retail businesses. As far as I can remember going out with my parents as a kid to purchase clothes to recent bachelor life in Hyderabad I have always looked forward to Pantaloons to buy clothes from across various merchandises. There were clothes and toys, both in a single store.
While working in cities like Hyderabad and Gurugram I have always found malls to be the exciting place to go to and at every mall there was a store of Pantaloons. Pantaloons became like a badge of almost every mall and I never missed visiting Pantaloons to browse through the products from various brands or availing the discounts that come almost every fortnight.
This impact that ABG has made on my life has made me more loyal to it and I look forward to working for ABG in not just it’s retail business but explore other verticals too and drive it towards excellence and help it bring a positive impact of the Indian society.
Part B) Tell us how you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
I appeared for 12th standard examination from CBSE board in 2011. In the same year, I had appeared for various engineering entrance examinations. I hadn’t performed well in entrance exams in 2011 and had to join a relatively new college as compared to the established institutes I was looking forwards to joining that year.
My dreams of graduating from a premier institute were washed away in a moment but then I convinced myself that I would work hard and use whatever opportunity life has presented to me to make the most of it and carve out a bright future for me.
Although, the college that I had joined had a very good reputation in the industry, I was confused about whether my hard work would actually pay off or go in vain, as the college was very young in the professional education domain.
I realized that I cannot embark on the journey towards a bright career with the uncertainty I was facing. I decided to reappear for exams next year i.e. in 2012 and get into a college in which I can see a promising future for myself.
Managing preparation with college was very exhausting and demotivating at times. However, I remained consistent and worked hard towards my goal and ended up joining NIT Jaipur next year. I learned that, consistency, determination and hard work will always help us to achieve our goals and that major decisions in life will never be easy and one must be strong in the testing times and fight through it.
