If I just started blabbering about what makes IIM Kashipur special, then this will begin to look like a newspaper editorial. Instead, I will go the managerial way and try to put the points across in a crisp and condensed manner:
· Location – Located in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, IIM Kashipur is among the first in the new generation IIMs to shift to its permanent campus. With Nainital just 90kms and Jim Corbett 70kms away it gives us an amazing opportunity to unwind with our friends after an exceptionally grueling week at college.
· Academic Rigor – Being mentored by IIM Lucknow has got its own perks. We have inherited the same academic rigor as IIML. Students go through frequent quizzes, tests, and assignments. We follow Harvard’s case-based learning pedagogy, which exposes us to real-world scenarios and pushes to come up with viable solutions. We have got 31 permanent faculty members with recruitment for several more under progress, which gives us the best student-teacher ratio. Apart from that, we have visiting faculty from Industry and some of the best colleges in India.
· Infrastructure - Being the first ones among the new IIMs to move into their own campus comes with its own perks. Our college is probably amongst the only one that provided single occupancy rooms right at the beginning of their course. The rooms are cooled with a radiant cooling system which was installed keeping the green building norms in mind, helping us to reduce our carbon footprint.
· Industrial connect – Kashipur-Rudrapur is the densest industrial belt in our country, and some of the biggest names are here. We have a tie-up with a lot of these industries, our Lean cell has received a lot of praise and has been appreciated by the industry. Proximity to these industries helps the students in getting hand’s on experience on real-life issues.
· Clubs and Committees – With 6 functional clubs, 9 committees and several interest-based clubs, at IIM Kashipur we learn while we work. These are entirely run by students who manage all the events to be conducted and manage budgets running up to several lakhs. These help the students in practically applying theories that they have studied in class. All year round approximately 100+ events is hosted.
· Corporate events – With our flagship event Coalescence we invite industry leaders to share their opinions on industry-wide issues and the way ahead.
· Library – We have got a well-stocked library with 5000+books and journals. We also have complete access to resources from Gartner, Euromonitor, Crisil, Forst & Sullivan, Sage, Cengage and a lot more.
Which ABG company would I want to work in and Why?
With the gamut of organizations that come under the umbrella of Aditya Birla Group, it becomes increasingly tough to pick a favourite. While looking for an organization to work in, I want an opportunity to learn and grow, so instead of limiting my areas of expertise this early on, I think Aditya Birla Group with the variety of sectors that it operates in be it metals, cement, fashion or capital markets will provide me with the right platform for skill development and growth.
