“A genuine leader is not a searcher of consensus but a molder of consensus”, a quote by Martin Luther King describes aptly the multinational conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group which has constantly led and brought change in the society as a whole and has added value to the lives of millions. Housing various large brands in its portfolio, it becomes highly unlikely that any individual goes unaffected by the Aditya Birla Group. With a foothold in 34 countries, employing over 120,000 employees worldwide and a revenue of US$ 44.3 billion in year 2018, it has touched lives of millions and has affected the society as a whole.

From shaping telecom sector with revolutionary ‘Walk and talk’ (Idea) to becoming the second largest telecom service provider Vodafone Idea Ltd. handling over billions of conversations daily and providing seamless service to millions including me, ABG has been BIG in my life. From laying the foundation of my home to building of huge roads and highways (Ultratech), making my journey hassle free, ABG has been BIG in my life. IT is big in my life in the form of the fashion brands under its umbrella which have continuously styled my wardrobe allowing me to be ready for each occasion. When small components come together and join for a cause, BIG is created and ABG is that amalgamation of small components, making a large impact in the lives of individuals. BIG is Aditya Birla Fashion retail becoming the India’s first billion-dollar fashion venture, taking India to the world. For Birla Carbon, BIG is also microscopic that has strived constantly to make the tyres safer and sturdier, making a huge impact in my life.

Another aspect which makes ABG big in my life is its constant endeavor to give back to the society and actively contribute to the social and economic development of communities. Being associated with an NGO for uplifting the under privileged children myself, ABG inspires me to contribute as much as one can to the society. The scale of work that is being done in terms of hospitals, schools, providing education etc. nurtures a sense of belonging and responsibility for the society that has made a huge impact in my life making ABG BIG for me. I would be deeply honored to work in Aditya Birla Group that is shaping so many lives and taking India on the world platform.

This is a short anecdote of how have I made an impact by overcoming the odds and challenges that I faced in my first job. Straight out of college, I got into a data analytics firm through on – campus placements. Being a Mechanical Engineering graduate and completely new to the field of data analytics, it was challenging in all sorts be it technical as well as in terms of adapting to the alien corporate environment.

Just two months in the job, I was given a task of creating a promotion optimization capability that included exploring a completely new technical language, R shiny which had not been worked on, in the firm before and I was the only analyst in this project. The capability building on this platform had not been explored in the organization prior and the work included a lot of research along with extensive documentation. I faced a lot of challenge in gaining a command over the language where at times I was scolded for mistakes along with being guided in the right direction. How I overcame this challenge was by keeping a positive attitude throughout and also the key thing that I maintained during the entire stint was time management and prioritizing my work. Another thing that helped me sail through was that I used to classify the pending things in an urgency-importance matrix that allowed me further to prioritize my work.

Though I had a lot of sleepless nights during that period, I still cherish those moments as they made me learn a lot and made me a tough person. The work I did and the impact I made, bagged me Bravo award for the star performer of the quarter and also generated a lot of revenue to the firm. The challenges I faced made me strong and the impact I created made me satisfied.
