“Oh! That is a gorgeous cover drive!” I can hear the cricket commentary in the background, but I was lost in thoughts thinking about the “ABG Challenge” and what topic should I choose to write upon. Then I overheard something on TV, “so what was your most memorable moment in ODI cricket?” and the batsmen without any second thought replied, “my first century!”. Those words were the eureka moment for me! I realised that no moment is more significant and memorable than my first day at IIM Visakhapatnam!
July 17, 2017, it was, I still remember opening the door of lecture hall 2. I can hear my moms’ words “You can’t even decide on the colour of the suit you would want to wear; how do you think you will make a good manager?” I entered the lecture hall with all these thoughts running through my mind. I felt like a child who is attending his first day at kindergarten, scared and confused! My first impression of our lecture hall was “wow!” The infrastructure in the classroom was world-class, the design of the lecture hall is worth appreciating, and the acoustics were too good! For recent engineering pass out like me, these facilities are new as you would not find them in many of the engineering colleges.
After soaking in the ambience of the lecture hall, it was time for a case study prep session to take my breath away! It was meant to be a preparatory session which teaches you how your approach should when dealing with a case. It was taken by Prof.Ganesh Prabhu. The case was an ordinary one or me being a novice thought so! The various dimensions he presented to us during the discussion, it was unbelievable. I learnt the most important lesson then “It is not as easy as it seems!”.
Then came the interaction with Student Affairs Council or “SAC” it helped me adding some words to my vocabulary like “globe,” “sacrosanct!” etc. We were split into groups and given a case study to submit by 2:59:59 am “sacrosanct!”. Firstly, I was taken aback by hearing the deadline! And, most of us had a very tiring day! But to my surprise, everybody managed to gather with their teams and submitted their analysis. After a gruelling session of discussing and submitting the case, I came back to my room and wondered how I would survive here! But today as I write this article I can happily say that it was all worth it!
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
Naming a specific company to work for Aditya Birla Group is difficult. But as a Fashion enthusiast, my dream ABG company is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. I am more inclined towards the fashion industry, and I believe there is a lot of scope for the fashion industry in India. I believe it because of the increasing millennial population and increase in the sense of fashion among them. The fashion industry is undergoing a continuous change in a short period of time, and it requires enormous creativity to standout, and I believe I possess the skills that this industry requires.
