On 23rd of June, 2018 as I landed in IGI Airport, I had a heart full of dreams and a head full of expectations. After all the 2 years one spends in a B-School are supposed to be the best years of their lives. It was my 3rd visit to the national capital and this was going to be a long one!!
On the eve of 25th June, as I went to sleep, myriads of thoughts went flashing by in my head. The feelings of excitement and anxiety swept through my brain as I could barely sleep the entire night. Little did I know, that it was going to be the last night were I could have slept peacefully in a long while!!
25th morning the process started and although it seemed a little laid back in the beginning, the speed and intensity took off when the Infamous ‘Personality Development Program’ organized by the seniors took off. With assignments and activities pouring in one after the other, with deadlines approaching faster than bullet trains, with lunch and dinner breaks reduced drastically, the first few days really tested the mettle of the batch. As a result, the unity of the batch increased, the bonding and sense of brotherhood among peers increased, and by the end of the first week, we were a bunch of well-groomed budding managers ready to take on the rigors of anything and everything one could throw at us.
One of the funniest incidents which I recall every time I think about PDP was that once we were divided in teams and given the task of earning money by selling services/products in the real world. In the scorching Delhi heat, our team decided that selling chilled water bottles would be a good business plan. So we went to Sarojini Market and bought a couple of water bottles and tried selling them at elevated prices. The moment we set up our stall, a couple of local hawkers came and started marketing their bottles at the original lowered price. As a result, their sales soured and we were standing there in the middle of the market with not a single customer!! We changed plans after that and headed towards Connaught Place hoping for a better outcome. This incident taught us a lot of things and made us laugh at ourselves like never before. We realized the difference between text book learnings and on-field job experiences. The takeaways from that day were immense.
The last 2 weeks in IIFT has definitely been one of my most memorable ones. From lectures to fresher’s to club activities, the experience has been one of a kind. All these things are some of the intangible aspects that a top B-School should possess and IIFT scores heavily over others in these fields.
