Learning begins at the end of your comfort zone and it has been the way I have lived with. It was all started when my parents sent me to a boarding school at an early age of 10 years due to lack of better schooling at my hometown. I did my schooling across 4 different cities living away from my family, which has taught me to learn from a new environment and new challenges at each and every stage of life and has made me independent and adaptable.
I met with an accident just before 3 months of my class XII board exams and was advised bed rest for next 2-3 months as I had a fracture on my right leg and was not able to walk. I was not able to go to school and coaching at the most crucial stage of my board exam preparation and that was the most challenging part. At times I felt depressed contemplating a drop citing loss of one year’s preparation. But I decided to try my level best and continue preparing at home and tried to be positive. Later, I passed the exam, scoring within top 1% of the school board and learnt one of the most important lessons of not giving up until the last shot.
When I joined my previous organization, the project assigned to me was in the learning phase and so there used to be a lot of rework and change request on the design part. From the very next week of my joining, I was designated as a production supervisor of all the Retrofit activities. The real challenge there was, I was not trained for the same and there was no standard operating procedure as it was not a part production methods and the rework used to be different in nature as problems faced during the assembly were subjective to different areas. In the very short span, I along with my team started a rigorous and systematic practice of figuring out the root causes of the errors and repetitive issues to reduce the indirect retrofit hours and subsequently succeeded in fully eliminating the retrofit activities after four months. I have learnt that targeting a long term solution, we should investigate the root causes and persistently work towards eliminating it.
