A Management trainee is an entry level officer who can be assigned any work from a set of tasks that are performed at a bank on regular basis. A management trainee has to work in different departments of the bank like - teller, handle new accounts, work at loan desk, handle customers etc.
Management trainees or probationary officers also undergo frequent transfers & deputations. Once the probation period is successfully completed s/he gets permanent posting.
Pro & Cons:
Life of a management trainee is way too good in terms of salary & social status. However, the working environment for PO/MT varies. If your branch officer is good enough to let you get some creative freedom, you will learn a lot about banking industry in very less time. A management trainee has to perform many tasks that also includes clerical tasks. Sometimes management trainees complain about this. However, having knowledge of clerical work is as important as having managerial skills.
As a management trainee at bank, you have to work 6 days a week & in small branches securing leaves will always be a problem. There are many benefits in bank PO/MT like good salary, reimbursement, perks, holiday packages, leave policies, and fixed working timings, but things comes in packages & therefore there are few things in this profession that might be seen as cons.
So to summarize, a bank management trainee is a good career option & learning experience. Joining any of the nationalized bank or private bank will get you a better career. Although the recruitment process is tough, but its worth your efforts.
