Ganesh Chaturthi (September)
The auspicious festival of the birthday of the deity of intellect and wisdom is celebrated with Modaks, Aartis and Visarjan dance. Ganpati is instituted in the college campus and students come and show their gratitude with their prayers. Of course, you have the lunch and dinner suited for the occasion
Dandiya Night ( September/ October)
As an ode to Durga Maa, her valour, triumph and compassion, students celebrate the Dandiya Raas with Garba music and Dandiya dance. This is the time when we can see bright smiles geared up in colourful ethnics ready to dance through the night.
PS: Don’t worry if you don’t know the moves, we have a Dandiya Workshop to help out the enthusiasts.
Diwali (October/November)
The festival of light begins with Laxmi Pooja in the evening which is followed by sweet distribution. Fauji Area at IIM Lucknow is decorated with beautiful lights and students come in ethnic wear to greet one another, light lamps and of course, get clicked. Usually, the end term exams follow Diwali, yet the students manage to take out time to celebrate the festival.
Euro Night (December)
The event is marked to bid farewell to our Student Exchange (STEX) friends who join us for one complete trimester from campuses across the European Union. Students put up a song and dance performances braving the cold temperatures and click pictures with their friends from STEX.
Lohri ( January)
Lohri marks the celebration of the ascension of sun and hence warmth. At IIM Lucknow, Lohri is a night of bonfire with closed ones and yes with popcorn, til gud laddu and peanuts. It's a get together to get some respite from the bone-chilling cold while singing and dancing in the warmth of friends.
Prom Night ( February)
The night of the valentines where they come out in their western attires and compete with each other in a series of games and photo sessions. The promenade also accompanies a salsa dance workshop to help the students refine their dance moves.
Holi Celebration (March)
The festival that marks the inauguration of colourful spring is celebrated in vibrant zest and enthusiasm. Students wash away all their differences and reservations to come out and get closer to the colours of life.
The scenes at Fauji area witness students smearing faces with colours, aiming pichkaris at one another, dancing to festive songs and enjoying sweets and thandai.
Insti Parties ( Every Month!)
All said and done, the most glamorous party scenes happen at the Insti parties and they happen each month!
They are a way to offload the pressure and celebrate even the smallest of achievements. Be it the post-placements chill, fresher's to first years, new year’s eve, Sangharsh victory, there is always food, drinks, and the dance floor to vent out the emotions and experience the highs.
These events are organized by various student-led committees including but not limited to Cultural Committee, Student Council, Abhivyakti, Student Exchange Committee and Mess Committee. Thanks to them for making it a pleasant stay at IIM Lucknow!
