In our everyday life, it's hard to miss the presence of Aditya Birla Group. A conglomerate spanning over 34 countries with its base of operations in India, Aditya Birla Group has now reached a point wherein it is present in almost every product line one could think of.

Started in 1857 by Narayan Birla in Pilani, Rajasthan, as a cotton trading entity, the group now encompasses services across both consumer and industrial goods and services. The focus on textiles remained till India gained independence, within which it had established the brand Grasim. Post Indian independence, the group emerged as a front runner in the Indian industrial movement. With the formation of Hindalco, the group soon got a strong foothold in the aluminium industry and today stands as the world's largest roller of aluminium. This was soon followed by ventures into the edible oils segment in 1977, when Pan Century was incorporated in Malaysia. In 1978, the group founded Thai Carbon Black, which engages in the manufacture of specialised carbon black for industrial use, and is now the leader in the segment globally. The Group also established Indian Rayon (now under the Grasim brand) which stands as the global leader in Viscose Staple Fibre. The group also has a marked presence in the Indian telecom industry through the subsidiary Idea (now Idea-Vodafone), which is the 2nd largest player in the industry, as well as the infrastructural segment through the cement manufacturing subsidiary, Ultratech as well as through Aditya Birla Aditya Birla Insulators. The MNC has also created an indelible mark in the fashion retail segment, through a slew of brands such as Planet Fashion, Grasim, Allen olly, Van Huesen and Louis Philippe under the aegis of Aditya Birla Fashion Retail. The Group's presence is massive in the financial services market as well, through its arms Aditya Birla SunLife Insurance and Aditya Birla Capital. The group also has a significant presence in the petroleum egment through its stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

It is then without doubt that one can see Aditya Birla Group in every product that they may come across.

Coming from a military background, I have lived in several areas across the country all through my childhood. One would assume that I had been a tough kid due to my upbringing and familial military background. But truth be told, I had faced quite a few difficulties, in part due to my South Indian heritage and complexion. I had trouble mingling with my predominantly Hindi speaking peers, as well as been subject of their ridicule based on entirely my complexion. It did get to me often, and I'd find myself trudging behind others in all matters, from studies to sports. But i eventually learned to take it in my stride, and I thrived in spite of the difficulties. I eventually worked on the shortcomings that I could do something about, and eventually covered the gap between my peers and me.

One thing I had imbibed in my childhood had been to give my hundred percent till the very end. And that has helped me overcome certain other challenges in my life on both educational as well as a personal front. I have also been able to garner a good support system for myself in terms of family, as well as friends. This has been instrumental in me being able to thrive and succeed in difficult situations. Further, I have cultivated a habit of adapting to situations as they arise, no matter how difficult they seem. This too, has helped me to be malleable enough to survive high tension environments without cracking under the pressure.
