It was just the second day of orientation for the new batch of 2018-2020 PGPM programme and we were supposed to have a guest lecture on “Social entrepreneurship” by Mr Swapnil Tiwari. When I read the subject of the lecture, I kept on thinking what is Social entrepreneurship? How do you mix social cause with the entrepreneurship?
When Mr Swapnil Tiwari entered the hall around 6:45 PM, my mind immediately created a perception about him based on his attire and looks. He was wearing a black Kurta & Pyjama and his hair was tied in a pony. My mind immediately perceived him to be an arrogant person and I was a bit sceptical about his lecture.
But when he started speaking about his way of life, I was in for a surprise. I was fascinated. When he spoke about his way of entrepreneurship "Sarvmangalam", the whole class was thrilled. He explained the problems he faced in his life and how he overcame them and went on to become the person he is today. The stories of numerous persons he helped, from the sex workers in Sonagachi Kolkata to Kargil Widows in Haryana to the people facing torture by the Naxalites , I was surprised by the way he resolved the problems of a number of persons stuck in a difficult situation and also relocated them with the help of his way of entrepreneurship. He called himself MADMAN and the whole batch was in agreement.
That was the day when I learnt that we just need to give Hope to the people. If we can’t help monetarily, we should know how to provide hope to the people. I learnt that day that everyone's story is his or her own story. So instead of running behind the success stories of another person, we should be creating our own success story and should be pursuing our dreams.
It was the passion and creativity in his way of entrepreneurship, that kept the whole class engaged throughout the session. Everyone was so thrilled by the motivation he gave, that the lecture extended till 9:30 PM and the lecture was stopped only for dinner. The lecture restarted at 11:00 PM again and Mr Tiwari kept on motivating the full batch for another one hour.
I am so glad that I was there to attend the lecture given Mr Swapnil Tiwari and it wouldn’t have been possible if respected director & PGP Chair of IIM Trichy has not invited him to deliver the guest lecture. I want to thanks the Director and PGP Chair of IIM Trichy for providing this opportunity to me and my batchmates.

In Aditya Birla group Companies, I would like to work in Aditya Birla Fashion and retail limited. I would like to work in Operations and supply chain department of the company as I have been interested in operations management from my under Graduation days. Also, since I have worked in network management in after-sales service department in LG Electronics for close to 47 months, I will be able to understand and relate the requirement and importance of Customer satisfaction.
