STANDING OUT AMONGST THE CROWD: SIBM PUNE
I finally got down from the train after a tiring 30 hours journey. I came out of the station looking for the cab. It had been 4 years since I have been in Pune. It felt nostalgic but the fact I was taking up a new journey had given me a few nightmares. Going through the city, it felt the same as before but what lied ahead lingered around continuously. And finally I saw “SYMBIOSIS” written on the top of a hill. Everything changed that particular moment and somehow confidence overtook me. All the research and analysis I had done prior to joining started going through and the smile and confidence to start the new endeavor was back.
Like all top B schools, SIBM Pune also boasts of all the incentives that will incline any student towards it. It has a history of 40 years which means a big alumni base. Going through the list, one would find illustrious alumni of SIBM in top posts of top companies across all sectors. The location could not have been better as the numbers of corporate companies present in Pune and Mumbai is bound to give the students all the exposure they need into the real world. The pedagogy contains people who had prior industrial experience as well as those who had made a prosperous career for themselves in the education sector. With so many external lecturers coming not just from different parts of India but also across the globe gives the students a sneak peek into the real world and also helps them assess where they stand. And the placement scenario here is on the rise as top recruiters coming here are offering top roles to the students and the average package in increasing each year. It has top infrastructure facilities which include amazing hostels, a big mess and also sports facilities for various sports like football, cricket, badminton, swimming, basketball, squash etc.
But there is something which is unique to SIBM and however hard other B schools try, they cannot match to it; it is based on the top of a mountain in the lap of nature. The atmosphere and environment here is ideal for nurturing of students, their ideas and their overall development. The climate here is on the cooler side for most part of the year unlike most other B schools. The scenic beauty here also relaxes the mind which is very essential regarding the rigor one experiences during the MBA tenure. This also provides students opportunities to continue with their hobbies or develop new ones like trekking, photography, etc.
The I&E program started by SIBM Pune, a first of its kind in India to help budding entrepreneurs develop their ideas and help in nurturing those through the guidance of experienced industrialists. This provides an excellent opportunity for students not only to learn the ground level work of startups but also how to utilize their potential to maximum level.
The fact that the college is totally student driven has led to formation of various councils for catering to all the purposes of the college. The councils work in tandem with each other and make sure all the needs of the students with regard to not only corporate world but also personal interests are catered to. The learning experience one gets by being a member of these councils helps them to identify their strengths and also to work on their weaknesses.
SIBM Pune truly stands out when it comes to the quality of education, facilities and experience it imparts to its students.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
HINDALCO INDUSTRIES LIMITED
Aditya Birla Group is in the league of Fortune 500 and has indulged in many sectors with industries all over the world. Hindalco Industries Limited, the flagship metal company is where I would like to work for because it not only is the largest producer of rolling aluminium in the world but also has the largest single location copper smelter with integrated port facilities at the Dahej port. Being a marine engineer, I would love to be a part of shipping again as well as involved in a manufacturing plant processing metals.
