The Paradise at the hill top- The unique campus of SIBM, Pune
The clownfish is able to reside among the poisonous tendrils of the anemone, whereas other fish — including predators — will feel the sting if they get too close, making it a perfect hideout for this vibrant reef species. The anemone, in turn, benefits by consuming the clown fish’s waste and other wasted bits of food. This is not just a random example of mutually beneficial relationships in nature but this is an example of what constitutes the cornerstone of our university-Symbiosis Institute of Business Management(SIBM), Lavale, Pune. SIBM develops and nurtures in the students a sense of humility, humanity, positive networking and mutual support.
The first and the foremost way in which my SIBM campus is unique is in terms of its diversity, not only on the basis of region or religion but also in the ways of talents, educational background, courses pursued, and nationality. We have students from Nepal, Mauritius, Ghana etc. and we have people on our campus pursuing telecom management (Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management), communication management (Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication) along with Business Management in Human Resource, Finance, Marketing and Operations. This variation in the domain of knowledge and skills provides a constant exchange of information and keeps us abreast with all the spheres of the world and adds different perspectives to our thinking. At SIBM, we have students from the educational background of psychology, law, MSc., M.A., anthropology, embryology, aviation, hospitality, engineering amongst many others and then we have national/international chess, cricket, football, table tennis, tennis, squash players along with swimmers, MMA trainers, dancers, singers, poets, authors, instrument players (ukulele and flute included), calligraphers, meme designers, adventure junkies etc. The composition of SIBM brings to life its mission to inculcate the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'(the world is one family).
Another important factor which makes the campus of SIBM unique is its student-driven culture. There are nine student councils which take active participation in the decision-making process that navigates and secures their future as well as the future of the students. The Students’ Council at SIBM Pune is responsible and accountable for all activities conducted on campus throughout the year. Each council works on the different aspects -student life, alumni interaction, corporate interface, sports, co-curricular activities, PR and social media, placements and research and development. The teams consist of students from the first and second year led by coordinators. These coordinators, along with the President of the Students’ Council, form an executive body to oversee all activities. The executive council has been provided with the independence to plan and set goals for their respective teams and to efficiently use budgeted resources to accomplish them. The Director and Faculty Chairperson offer their guidance and support.
The uniqueness of the SIBM campus, Lavale, Pune is incomplete without the mention of its scenic backdrop. My campus looks like a place where serenity and passion live together when the blood red sky is contrasted against the lush green landscape. Each evening brings a different hue to the sky, colours which are never seen before and then the evening transcends into peaceful nights, the tranquillity of which is continually disturbed by the happy and enthusiastic groups of students who are scattered around the campus enjoying the breeze, chats, music and tea. When it rains, my campus gets veiled by clouds, brisk winds and performances by peacocks. My campus has so many colours, so many shades working in tandem as well as in contrast with each other.
Lastly, I will like to put it this way:
I always wondered how the junction of passion and serenity will look like? and then I saw the blood red sky and lush green landscape at SIBM.
I always pondered how will the amalgamation of nervousness and excitement feel like? and then I saw this talented crowd of my batchmates.
I always wondered if Lucifer and Gabriel can co-exist and then I was introduced to the grinding yet polishing pedagogy and mentorship at SIBM.
I always wondered if a home is only where a family resides and then I meet my roommates and friends at SIBM and shared laughs and frustrations
The hill, the rains, the peacocks, the clouds, the breeze, the food, the mood, the classes, the masses, the mess, the tests and the fun and the frolic
Being at SIBM is not an experience, it is an emotion, for which words are less but the fact that I told my mom that I have found another home, says it all.
"Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life."
Which ABG company would you like to work for and why?
I will love to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. (ABFRL), because of the ReEarth Movement which was flagged off in 2013-14 with the vision statement “We are committed to giving back more than what we take from our ecosystem”. For a company, with a combined revenue of INR 7,181 crore for FY 2018, aiming for sustainable development while focusing on 10 critical aspects namely -energy, carbon footprint, green building, water, hygiene, waste, safety, CSR, zero pollution packaging and sustainable product, is quite courageous, considerate and inspiring.
