4th June 2018. My B-school dream has finally begun. After months of twisting my brain around algebraic equations, interpreting data sets in ways only I could imagine, and reading passages whose experience can only be described by words which can make a sailor blush, I am here. SIBM Pune. Phew. Self-Clap.
So the journey began. We had a week long induction ceremony which included an outbound program to Lonavla. I made awesome friends, the weather is pleasant and I learnt the meaning of the word “pfaff”. The campus as you may well know is in the Lavale hills of Pune. ‘Awesome’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘splendid’, these words are not enough to describe this campus. The view from the Aqua Point is heavenly. We just wished our academic schedule was as pleasant as the scenery around us .
Ok, so coming to the main point. You want to know what makes my campus unique. You may expect me to tell you it’s the weather, or the locale with serene hills surrounding us and a view worth waking up to. Or the seriously fascinating diversity that the students bring in their wake. But no. There are a handful of other campuses which also have such envious features. So what is unique then you ask. Well there are three. Let’s be a little patient and take them on one by one.
1) Community Bikes: SIBM-Pune offers unlimited bicycle riding experience included in its fees. We can zoom around the campus during misty mornings, enjoying the serenity of the environment through eyes red with sleep deprivation because of the multitude of assignments, lectures, guest lectures, lectures by seniors, etc etc etc. Jokes apart, I think community
bicycles give us a way to conveniently traverse our quite widely spread campus without being a partaker in spreading pollution.
2) The mess food: Dread it? Fear it? Run from it? Not here. The mess food of SIBM is of top notch quality. It is tasty, healthy and has enough variety to satisfy everyone from a Gujarati to a Bengali. A pleasant departure from the type of mess food available in different campuses across the country (as per feedback from the students coming from across the country ).
3) And now the last one. Okay. Ready? You may not be able to unsee this. You may think I am mad. But I really think this is unique. Ok then.
SNAKES.
Yes you heard me ..er sorry..read me right. There are snakes on our campus. And I mean the actual ones . But don’t worry, none of them are harmful to humans. So you can come to recruit us for our summers without worry. It’s just been a month and I have had two sightings of them. One a solitary one slithering about minding its own business. And the other one in which two snakes were literally entangled in each other (Geez, get a room guys ).
So now you know about the truly unique features of my campus. Come give us a visit, and we may together ride the bikes, have a cup of tea and plate of Upma from the mess, and if we are lucky, will catch sight of a truly exotic snake slithering away in the twilight.
And of course talk about that offer letter ;)
