There are two aspects to this article,

Firstly, How Aditya Birla Group has made it big over the years

Being one of the oldest and the most reputable business conglomerates in the country, it is inevitable for Aditya Birla Group to be a part of our daily hustle. The Vodafone Idea connections that millions of people connect with, the eco-friendly yet affordable Liva fabric that is adorned by the modern Indian consumer, the Freshwrapp foil that keeps food fresh, much to the satisfaction of moms sending packed lunches for their loved ones at work or school- are some obvious connections of ABG group with a middle class citizen of this country.

But the achievement that surpasses all this for me is ABG’s big presence in lives of people who make our present better- the farmer who takes help of Shaktiman Krishi Seva Kendras to increase farm yield and provide us good quality grains. Equally commendable is the ground-breaking work of Novelis in the field of electric vehicles, designing the world’s first lightweight, high strength aluminium battery enclosure, proving that ABG is not just big today; it is equally cognizant of our future.

Kumar Mangalam Birla once said that courage is a common attribute between a businessman and a warrior. It is probably with courage that you, ABG, chose to build a school in one of the most backward districts of the country and give the children of Doraguda a chance for a brighter future. It is probably with that courage you heard the plight of thousands of deaf, underprivileged children to gift them the ability to listen.

ABG is big in our lives, not just as a modern Indian wishing to achieve the highest peaks of success and happiness, but also as a responsible citizen of this planet, keeping sustainability at the heart of every action and step.

Secondly, How I overcame challenges to make it big in life

We constantly face challenges in life but what defines is how we come out of those challenges and prove our mettle. Challenges are what make us stronger in our path towards achieving our ambitions. I myself had to overcome numerous challenges in order to achieve what I wanted to and I have always learned a great deal through those tough times. They have always made me stronger and better than the previous version of me.

I remember having failed in my computer science pre-board exams in class X. I could never understand the Java language and never tried even to understand it. My mother was extremely upset and angry with me. I had 3-4 months with me to score a respectable amount of marks. I decided I will leave no stone unturned in my preparation for the board exam. I sat daily with my professor after the classes to clear my basics and then worked on each example given in the book at my home. I would discuss my doubts with the class topper, practised previous year papers and worked day night to improve my marks. The result, I scored 99 in my boards’ computer science paper and then 6 years later graduated in computer science stream.

When I got placed in Deloitte in the cyber risk vertical I never thought that my department would be changed even before I started my work. I was shifted to the risk advisory department due to business reasons. I had undergone training and sessions for cyber risk and prepared myself for that role, but this came as a surprise to me. I kept my composure and believed in the management’s decision. Coming from a tech background I had no prior knowledge of accounting, but I worked hard in the initial days, did few courses to strengthen my basics of accounting. Gradually I became comfortable with the accounting terms and went on to work with major fortune 500 clients and winning few appreciation awards during my tenure.

The most important learning from all these challenges was that I never gave up, I was persistent in my hard work and I could see results gradually. I was confident and backed my own ability to turn a challenge into an opportunity.
