Undoubtedly in my opinion, the most memorable classroom experience I have had here at SIBM Pune would be in the Operations Management lecture taught by Prof. Rajen Ganpuley As soon as I hear “Operations Management”, my head would start spinning, thinking of all the techniques, methods and material management needed in the subject. That was till I attended the first lecture of Prof.Rajen here at SIBM Pune. And from that day, Operations Management (OM) feels like one of the easiest subjects I have ever encountered.

It was the first week of our lectures and as expected, we all(students) were nervous about the academics and were trying to anticipate how our teachers would be. The only thoughts running through all our minds were, “I hope he/she isn’t very strict”,”I hope I don’t sleep in his/her lectures”, and the very typical questions students are puzzled with in their initial days in school/college. And then the (OM) lecture day arrived.

Rajen sir arrived in class and gave his introduction which was very informal and friendly. It felt very overwhelming as he wasn’t just talking in English, he was also using a lot of Hindi to make us feel comfortable and it worked indeed. He was carrying a bag full of colourful post-it notes, colourful pencils, markers, charts and a box full of chocolates and whistles. We (students) now call it the magic bag.

Before starting his lecture, he chose a volunteer from the class, made him wear the whistle and instructed him to blow it in intervals of one hour as the class was scheduled for three hours. That was our break whistle. As the lecture started, he would explain the concepts and ask related questions to the class, and the person with a precise answer would get a chocolate from the box. The greed for chocolates kept us indulged and active in class. The lecture would then turn into an open discussion as everybody was eagerly participating. He made us perform group activities and clicked pictures with every group and sent it to us as a memory of the first lecture.

This was one of the most unique classroom experiences I had ever experienced. I could see the involvement of students in the lecture and was thinking of the intrigued by the teaching techniques Rajan Sir was applying to make the class fun and interesting for us.

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

When considering the Aditya Birla Group, I would prefer to work in IDEA CELLULAR.

The cross-domain interactions in IDEA would help me learn about various domains of a cellular network from Customer care to Finance. This experience would be very vital in terms of work flexibility and acquiring different skillsets from the seniors in the firm. The overall work culture being very teamwork oriented would bolster my work efficiency and communication skills. And due to less outsourcing in the company, there would be lots of zeal among cross-functional team members to work for the good results.
