Keep Calm (!!) and Study Economics!!

I’ve had my fair share of academics in life. Phew! A Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, playing around with chemicals, a la Heisenberg. A Master’s degree in pharmaceutical biotechnology, two years of my life spent trying to make sense of enzyme mutations. Just when I thought, I’d seen enough, it turned out that God had different plans, sitting in his high backed golden chair up there. Surprise! Surprise! MBA it was to be next! And not just any other regular B-School.

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management it turned out to be. And as luck would have it, our very first lecture turned out to be the beast I was dreading. The Bermuda Triangle for my academic expertise - Microeconomics. In sashayed, a jovial, vivacious and extremely chirpy professor.

Within five minutes, Mrs Manasi Phadke had managed to slay whatever demons had hitherto been lurking in my mind and turn microeconomics into a different ball game for me altogether. I’d been used to professors churning out huge barrels of numbers, diagrams and models, just like a production conveyor belt, and I would often be found thinking of sunnier pastures. But hey presto! Microeconomics actually made sense! I came expecting Greek and Latin, but it was English, and how!! We started off with the problems of the local rural agrarian economy, and the feeling that I had was, economics isn’t the big-horned bullish monster that many claim to be so! The class was lively, often crackling with electric humour, not least due to the efforts of Mrs Phadke herself. About the….…misconceptions, here is what I have to say:

I may have been in the first category, but after my first ever Microeconomics lecture, I can conclusively say that I have joined the ranks of “Simply the Best”, thanks to the brilliance and enterprise of Mrs Phadke!

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

UltraTech Cement

UltraTech Cement, a part of the Aditya Birla Group, is one of the leading cement manufacturers in the world. It is a brand that is synonymous with “strength”, “reliability” and innovation”. Together these attributes motivate civil engineers to create structures, homes and buildings for a new and vibrant India. As a management student, specializing in operations and supply chain management, I would want to work for UltraTech Cement, to experience a hands-on role in demand planning, procurement, logistics and quality management systems, capabilities that help in asset utilization to succeed in a competitive environment.
