There are two parts to this article. The first part focuses on my association with the Aditya Birla Group and its numerous brands over the years and the second part speaks about how I was able to tackle and overcome a challenge in order to achieve my goals.
Part I
Firstly coming to Aditya Birla Group. There are so many adjectives that come to mind that would describe this reputed organization. There! 'reputed' is one! Others would include legacy, leader, brand, pioneer and culture. The Aditya Birla Group has been a global and national pioneer and leader in several businesses. Its ethos, the brands associated with it and the overall culture has truly been its legacy over the many years. This reputed organization has been and continues to be a big part of my life.
Some of its brands including Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England, Louis Philippe and many others have been very popular and these were the first brands of shirts I purchased when I first made a foray in to the corporate world. And even today, be it business formals for class presentations during my MBA or casual shirts for a party, I always fall back on these brands. Being a part of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, which is India’s first billion dollar and leading fashion brand, these brands have truly made their presence felt among the Indian audience.
Apart from these, even Freshwrapp and Superwrap are brands which my mother used extensively during my school days. I remember food being packed in the Freshwrapp aluminium foil in my lunch box which I would take to school. So there is a sense of nostalgia too associated with these brands of Aditya Birla which speaks volumes of how it has reached out to the public and what impression it has created on their minds.
Part II
My biggest challenge has always been the fear of failure, the fear of not being good enough. Such a fear makes you do one of these two things: - i) push yourself and work your backside off to achieve success or ii) start doubting yourself and consider a short roadblock as a huge mountain to climb. A few years ago, I was a completely raw entity, fresh out of college when I started working. As I had no prior experience of the corporate world, I was taken aback when I experienced the extremely strenuous and highly competitive corporate environment for the first time. I was concerned about survival, let alone performing well on the job. And so at that point of time, I would only doubt myself. I would not have confidence in my abilities, and constantly fear the possible outcomes. These emotions were just a roadblock to which I had given the status of a certain Mt Everest.
But then I realised that mountains were there to be climbed, weren't they? I then decided to tackle these emotions myself and to overcome the hurdles in my mind, I started to read motivational stories, listen to music, meditate, made it a habit to visualize only positive things, spoke to people and told myself that what I am facing is perfectly normal that many people face so it is okay. I even indulged in playing football when the opportunity came which I would enjoy. Gradually this mountain in my mind began to disappear and I was able to concentrate and even perform well on my job for which I received a lot of praise from my superiors. Thus, I was able to tackle this fear of mine which indeed posed a stiff challenge to me.
