Not Another Face In The Crowd - What Makes IIFT Unique

“Congratulations! You have been offered provisional admission into the MBA(IB) 2018-20 program at The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi”

This would very easily rank as the single greatest email communication I’ve ever received. The next part after this was obviously diving deeper into the college that you would expend a considerable amount from your(parents’ that is) corpus pursuing something that promised you a better life. From whatever I read on the internet, IIFT had everything: a diversified batch, great professors and most importantly eye-watering placement statistics. But there was this one thing that caught my eye: The Infrastructure or the lack thereof. Everyone on forums would wax lyrical about everything but infrastructure constraints was always a negative point. Having done my undergrad from what is arguably one of the biggest and most developed campuses in South India (It was 400 acres!) I was honestly a little sceptical about this.

Fast Forward to the present and my opinion has changed and how. My undergrad college being huge; had great facilities and thousands of students residing on campus. Don’t get me wrong it was a great college but with so many students around you tend to get lost (metaphorically), you become just another face in the crowd.

IIFT Delhi certainly has infrastructure constraints, a 5 acre campus without even an ATM inside. But with only 170 students in a batch and everyone residing in the same hostel (almost) you get to interact with one and all, people from different backgrounds and how they think about a certain problem statement which according to me is imperative for a future manager. Another one of the very unique characteristics is the loomie concept. A loomie is someone you share your loo with. This way you build connections and relationships with your peers which is absolutely essential to help you get through your hectic MBA life. These people are the support system that will help you sail through these two years and make memories for a life time. You couldn’t imagine how much it means to hear simple “Hey! How’s it going?” when you’re basically a zombie walking to your Economics class after 2 hours of sleep.

You don’t have a group of closely knit 5 friends here. It’s a family of 170.

ABG Company:

Aditya Birla Group being an Indian multinational conglomerate with interests in metals, branded apparel, financial services et al would be a dream company to work for. Among its diverse range of verticals, I would like to work in the retail arm of Aditya Birla Group i.e Aditya Birla Retail Limited (ABRL) . Having already had a background in Data Analytics and Marketing Consultancy, I believe I would be able to leverage my expertise especially in the Clubmore division of their retail arm.
