The transition from school to college is filled with a myriad of new experiences, and these experiences are often posed as challenges one might in an open and relatively more independent environment of the college. One of the greatest aspects of college life is the presence of student run societies and clubs that provide a wide range of exposure and learning opportunities. Like any other active student, I also spared no effort in deeply engaging and participating with one such group. I directed my attention into the Entrepreneurship Cell of my college and by the second year of my academic journey, I scored a position as the Marketing and Content Head. It is during this tenure that I faced a challenge that required me to think rationally and act promptly.
It was the day of our Entrepreneurship Cell’s annual fest, and we were faced with an unexpected predicament. The clock was turning 9 soon and one of our sponsors was amiss and so was a portion of the prize money. The events were beginning in 20 minutes, and at this point the team was a little more than frazzled. In that moment my mind was racing in only one direction- finding a solution, and eventually I did. After countless calls and chasing numerous leads, I ended up procuring vouchers from a variety of outlets which we used to compensate for the gap in our cash prizes. At the end of the day, the event was successful, the participants received the promised value and I learnt that there are solutions to all problems, we just need to find our way to one and we will always be able to find one and rise from the ashes if we have the will to do so. I am a firm believer of - "Future belongs to those who create an opprtunity not to those who wait for one! ". This seems to be the mantra followed by Aditya Birla Group which has made its presence across various industries. The group has interests in viscose staple fibre, metals, cement (largest in India), branded apparel, carbonblack, chemicals, fertilisers, insulators, financial services, telecom, and what not!
On a personal note, I can never forget the day when I bought a pair of formal clothing for the first time in my life from their premier brand Louis Philippe. As a teenager, I remember being overwhelmed by their logo as well as the advertisements shown on the television which made my perception of the brand as being classy, elegant and status defining. Van Heusen and Allen Solly too, were the brands that always caught my attention and as I matured and started reading more, I was surprised to know that all of these brands come under Aditya Birla Group. Their success is a textbook case of good marketing principles.
How can I forget the impact Aditya Birla Group has had in housing? Ultratech Cement has been a trusted brand over the years in building solutions. The fact that the brand emphasizes so much on sustainability is heartening. UltraTech Cement is fully aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It has been certified as two times ‘water positive’ by global auditing agency DNV.
When we talk of all these great brands introduced to us by the conglomerate, it would be a sin to not mention idea cellular. The impact its advertisements have had on the viewers is truly unparalleled. I'm sure one can never forget the " What an idea Sirji" phrase or the 'IIN'concept.
During a phase when everyone in the country used to look at overseas brands in awe, brands under Aditya Birla Group not only competed with their overseas counterparts but also outshone them. Their performance has instilled every aspiring entrepreneur with great hope and belief.
