On 4th July 2015, I started my internship at Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Pvt Ltd (ABSTCPL) - a corporate research and development centre for the Aditya Birla Group. I was wearing a crisp white Van Heusen shirt and a black Peter England trouser. I was nervous as I was told to meet the Senior Vice President of Corporate Technical and Energy Services (CTES - sister organisation). He told me that they were "looking for someone who is confident and has the domain knowledge to help us with the project”. The way he communicated this was highly motivating and encouraging. It boosted my morale from the very beginning of my journey at ABG.
My mentor - the General Manager of CTES introduced me to all the department heads and consultants personally. The work culture was so open and inclusive that it made me (an outsider) feel comfortable at the workplace. I got an opportunity to interact with the top management on the first day itself and was left humbled by the whole experience. I felt so honoured and welcomed that I fell in love with the place.
Just three weeks into working at ABSTCPL, they had their Annual Cultural Fest in which I participated and was appreciated for my act in the stage play. I no longer felt as an outsider working there but rather someone who had been a part of ABSTCPL for a long time. Before my internship started, I had heard about the amazing hospitality of ABG and indeed felt the same during my stay at their guesthouse.
In hindsight, working at ABG made me realise the importance of interpersonal skills and how it plays a prominent role in building relationships in our lives. My experience at ABG has made me humble. And I sincerely thank them for this wonderful opportunity.
