‘Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?’
I remember the day I received my interview call from NMIMS, Mumbai. A hundred emotions and a thousand thoughts were running through my heart and mind. The anticipation of the interview, the excitement of visiting my possible future college and the thrill of being a business student, I felt it all. Amidst all these thoughts was a very imminent task - I had to buy a set of business formals for the interview.
My very first business suit, this one was special for reasons more than one. It had to be just right - the right size, the right fit, the right colour. I stepped into the mall with no exact store or brand in mind. A few stores and couple of hours later, not having found what I wanted, I stepped into Allen Solly. The minute I stepped into the store, I saw a shirt with the perfect colour and knew that this is where I would find what I was looking for. Little did I know that less than an hour later, I would walk out of the store with exactly what I needed.
These first pair business formals will always be special for me since they helped me kick-start my journey as an MBA graduate. Every time I don them, I feel confident and powerful. I might buy ten more business suits in the years to come but Allen Solly will always be my first.
‘How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?’
In the spring of 2017, my life took an unexpected turn, or rather it was turned upside down. At the age of 21, I lost my father to heart attack. To say that it came as a shock to us would be a gross understatement. I was a few months away from finishing my engineering degree – a feat that my father was waiting for me to achieve for as long as I can remember. The unfairness of the entire situation was like a hundred simultaneous kicks to my gut.
Not only were we drained emotionally, but also financially, since my father was the sole bread-earner of the family. After he passed away, we struggled to make ends meet. I always knew that I wanted to pursue higher education once I completed my B. Tech but that required a large investment. Needless to say, it presented a huge challenge to me and my family. However, I never gave up on my resolve to pursue further studies as it was important for a more secure future for me and my family.
I decided to take up internships so as to earn whatever little I can and save it for the future. I worked really hard for all my entrance examinations and managed to get into one of the premier B-schools in the country. However, I knew I couldn’t afford to get complacent. I worked really hard throughout first year to strike a good balance between my extracurricular activities and academics and will continue doing so throughout second year as well.
