My grand-father always used to tell me stories about his childhood days. How back in the days children used to carry books in jute bags , attended classes under Neem trees, walked their way to schools, etc. Although things change with time but he didn't appreciate all the changes and being a kid I never understood his concerns. When I first read about global warming, the first thought that came to my mind was that “it is just a theoretical concept and nothing like this could ever  happen”. But as I learned more about it I understood the seriousness of the problem and was able to  understand my grand father’s concerns. I decided to do something about it but what can I, as an individual do about it when majority of the people around me are not even aware about it.

I cannot point the blame at them as at that point of time even I was not fully aware about it. So, getting myself educated and learning about the different aspects of global warming was my first step in this direction. As a result of which I was introduced to the concept of Sustainability. I started with small changes in my daily schedule such as limiting the use of water for bathing, walking to nearby places , etc. But when it came to utilizing eco-friendly products, affordable options were hard to find. During my pursuit I came across Liva - a new age fabric brand by Aditya Birla Group. The fabric is made using natural fibers obtained from wood pulp, a natural renewable resource and the company plants more number of trees than it uses to produce the fabric. This year in January the company also launched “Livaeco” which is an eco-enhances version of Liva. Not just the clothes are eco-friendly, even the cloth tags can be planted in soil. Incredible and innovative steps like these and that too from such big conglomerate makes huge impact on our society and are much required. The choices we make should be informed. The products we use should have the lowest possible carbon footprint. Change begins with an individual and it is the responsibility of each and everyone of us to play our part in the journey towards a greener future. Sustainability is about modifying our lifestyle. I have started my journey by adopting sustainable habits, utilizing eco-friendly products and I wish to incorporate several other ways as I move forward. And I request all of you to play your part. To re-emphasize the importance of taking charge and adopting sustainable practices I would like to quote Robert Swan "The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it".
