My decision to join Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirapalli came after over 2 years of soul-searching or introspection and a significant amount of research and enquiry on the quality of the institution, and has turned out to be among the wisest decisions I have made so far in life.
It has been a dream of mine since my under-graduation to join the most prestigious of management institutes in India, the IIMs, one day and in my pursuit of the same, I earned 2.4 years of work experience and decided to take off in the direction of my dream. My first effort was to find the right IIM to call my home and it did not take me long to include IIM Trichy in my dream list of management institutes. It was very soon that I fell in love with IIM Trichy.
I am a person who loves taking up responsibility and learning from adversity and I believe that it is the most adverse of times in one’s life that imparts the most valuable of life lessons. As Mark Manson quotes in his perspective altering book ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck’, “This is the most simple and basic component of life: our struggles determine our successes”. I have heard volumes about the academic and non-academic rigour in IIM Trichy and had been admiring the same for quite a while. There was no doubt about it when it was up to me to choose the institute I wanted to earn the best experiences from in the next two years of my life as I was absolutely confident that the upcoming experience in IIM Trichy would be redefining.
What set IIM Trichy out of the pack of b-schools and even other IIMs in India is the phenomenal growth it has achieved since its inception in 2011, and for very evident reasons too. The academy has placed such intense focus on academic as well as non-academic matters and has left no stone unturned to ensure that it delivers its best to its students. With 35 revered full-time faculties and a mix of the best visiting faculty and visiting lecturers from other premier b-schools and pioneer, prominent industries, academia is treasured as the gem on the crown IIM Trichy flaunts.
With the shift to an exclusive 170 acre permanent campus with state-of-the-art facilities, IIM Trichy has stepped up the game to a whole other level, leaving no room for doubt as to whether it is determined to obtaining the status of best business school in India and then the world itself. Efforts to complete the infrastructure and to turn IIM Trichy into a lush green campus are progressing in such an aggressive pace that current students are witnessing all stages a campus can go through in their brief tenures here. IIM Trichy also boasts of a mandatory Make A Difference project aimed at the good of society and serves as a vital lesson and eye-opener for all the student enrolled here. It is taken up by the students as close to their hearts and the sense of altruism is passed down with utmost care through each batch of students in IIM Trichy.
The most memorable classroom experience in IIM Trichy includes a guest lecture from an industry leader who gifted a batch of 180+ students the life changing perspective of doing business for all the right reasons of contributing to the society and planet. He exemplified the importance, scope and success of pursuing business with the purpose of serving social causes and working towards the betterment of the conditions of all life around us. This has been my most memorable classroom experience here so far, as it aligns with my perspective of life and why I decided to join IIM Trichy, which is to become a socially responsible manage, leader and entrepreneur and to make as much positive change in the world as I can.
PGP 2018-2020 batch is filled with people of insane talent and revolutionary perspectives:
Revathi Sarma
Revathi is a singer, a trained classical dancer as well as an altruist. She has proved her talents to all her batchmates very shortly after reaching IIM Trichy by participating in most cultural programs. She has taught students in less privileged communities as a part of Teach for India initiative and was also active with Make A Difference initiative in Trivandrum.
Rajan Harkare
Rajan has learnt Tabla for over 20 years and has performed for initiatives such as SPIC MACAY with renowned artists. He is also a guitarist and showcased his talents soon after reaching IIM Trichy earning quite the name for himself with his classy guitar skills and grand voice. He is also extremely sharp at getting things done and is proving his mettle with the initial works.
Sreenath Maruthiyat
Sreenath is a free soul, a dancer and a footballer. He is extremely welcoming and befriends people making sure he shares his positive vibes with all of them. He has also shown his dancing skills for the inaugural cultural event in IIM Trichy.
Khushbu Kumari
Khushbu is multi-talented and expresses herself through dance, singing and sketches. She is also vocal about what she believes in and stands for. She is among the youngest of our batch, but she is exceptionally mature.
In The Frontier of Fashion
As much as I believe that a person’s character is best judged by his inner self and actions, I also believe in following the middle path, where we have to perceive all other skills as necessary in portraying ourselves as amiable and worthy leaders. This includes the skill of making oneself appear elegant and requires some investment into apparels. Hence I make sure I dedicate my due time to dress classy and carry myself with confidence. This has also inspired me to adore clothing brands such as Louis Philippe and Van Heusen, which I follow ardently. I wish to take up managerial roles of strategic and overall managerial capacity in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. I am confident that I will be able to take up the perspective of consumers and identify and capture value from their interests. I would also suggest introducing a few new product lines including footwear, sportswear, etc.
Me, in Van Heusen formals.
