There was a new home coming up in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The family would visit to check on the progress while the little girl would play around. Her favourite part would be playing around those big piled up yellow sacks which would be her throne sometimes or Mt. Everest that she has to climb up. I was only eight years old but vividly remember that typical shade of yellow and the words “ULTRATECH”- all in bold letters making a statement.
She had teenaged when a mall came up nearby with various brands - an idea new to most people in India who would buy from local shops. Pantaloons pioneered in winning hearts with its apt understanding of Indians’ taste and prices to woo away the customer. The big green store became our heart of fashion. Our wish came true in college when Forever 21 came to India. We would often listen to its reference in Hollywood movies. It introduced a sense of smart western dressing and comfort for the youngest country in the world. In office and now in B- school, Van Heusen and Allen Solly people have become weekend friends! No wonder it is the largest producer of viscose staple fibre. There is so much more, we have our hot fresh lunch wrapped in freshwrapp, and we gift shirts from Peter England.
As I write this article it enlightens me on how ABG has been big in my life and has become an indispensable part. It gives a sense of attachment and bond to have known a brand since childhood only to become more aware of what all it has to give. The blissful longevity establishes people’s trust in it and in return it surprises us with more brands. Much love to the group that brought Indians ahead in the fashion industry.
The values in ABG’s fabric are one of those which help us get ahead in life. I relate myself the most with “commitment” and “passion”. To complete with dedication and persistency what I have set my mind upon is one of the key strengths. In my sophomore year, I attended what we call a youth parliament in Hindu College, Delhi University. I was fascinated by it and gave the idea of starting Model United Nations in our college. With seniors’ help who had attended MUNs, we formed an organizing team. To begin everything from scratch, understanding its rules and regulations and even arranging the Chair (Judges), it was a very enriching experience. We got permission from the management which promoted academic activities only. This was a confidence booster and made us happy that MUN would position our college among others in Delhi- NCR and would be a good exposure for our collegemates. Financials were handled without any haphazard and we could arrange the paraphernalia and refreshment in time. To take academics and work parallelly taught us time management. However, this was at intra- college level.
Next year we decided to take a step further and conduct the first inter college. We projected our skills really well and marketed ourselves to other colleges. Their delegations fortunately turned in good numbers. Workshops were conducted to prepare our students to perform at par with the experienced ones coming. Last but not the least, to reap in the sponsors was a great challenge as well, to guarantee them good return. After all the ups and downs, on the last day of MUN the team of forty - eight people stood proud and smiling at the camera for a group photo. The legacy has grown stronger and now JSSMUN is well known in the Delhi MUN circuit.
