Big is your memories. “Is this me? Me? In a suit, looking professional and beautiful?” These were my thoughts when I tried Allen Solly’s suits for the first time. The feeling of entering a new phase of my life was brought to the center by a beautiful designer suit. How a brand can leave an impact in your life in small moments is amazing. It intrigues me how memories are filled with several brands that are embedded in our life, making our lives better and more comfortable.

Big is being responsible. That is what Aditya Birla Group symbolizes for me. In a world where every industry is trying to exploit maximum resources available to them without a regard to the world in general, Aditya Birla Group is leading by example. They are leading from the front by adopting sustainability into their business day-to-day life. Birla Cellulose has completed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for all its products in its portfolio and have installed correct systems in place through globally certified parties like SGS, Control Union and simaPro to be more environmentally conscious. Moreover, they are using Index monitors energy, Higg scores and LCA values as benchmark analysis. These steps were not forced on them, but they went ahead with them to be environmentally conscious and responsible conglomerate.

Big is being a leader. Aditya Birla Group, apart from adhering to high sustainability standard, has been working with global brands like H&M, Inditex, M&S, C&A, Tesco and Ikea to trace their sources of resources in India. This all was not required by the conglomerate to run their business but the integrity and courage to do what is right is what defines Aditya Birla Group and their work for me. For a corporate, which has over 120000 employees spread across 34 nations, to voluntarily come forward and implement widespread changes in their manufacturing process and working culture to make their products as sustainable as possible is highly commendable and aspiring.

Big is being adaptive. Living in nine different cities and studying in eleven different schools has made me more open minded and friendly person. Living in a new place and meeting new people is always challenging. The challenge of getting entry into old groups and discovering the nooks and crooks of the new place can be a tiresome and tedious process. But any new place can be a treasure of undiscovered potential and adventures. Meeting a new person could mean discovering a whole new world of wonders, experience and memories. Being adaptive gives me the opportunity to find some new skills and facet about myself.

Big is embracing everyone. I have discovered that a small town has a different cultural and social dynamics than a big city. There are minute social differences like residence place, language, food, festivals and weather, all play an intricate part in creating that place’s unique social and cultural structure. Every place is governed by their own rules and regulations and as a newbie, a person must understand them quickly and adapt to the best of their ability. For example, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade’s Kolkata campus has a very diverse and vibrant group of people. Making friends in such a group is both exciting and intimidating. The best way to overcome such challenge is to be observant and open minded. Accepting that people are different and have their quirks can make the initial challenge of adapting, easier. To be positive and patient makes the rest achievable. Just like Aditya Birla Group has adapted to new challenges and fields with determination and fearlessness. They have merged with firms, like Vodafone, and bought others, like Colombian Chemicals, to become giants in the given sectors. They have with determination and strategic planning, molded the sectors according to them. Big in everyone’s life!
