Let me begin this article by a brief introduction of myself. I am Vishesh Srivastava, who has spent his entire life living in the Delhi-NCR region with his family. Hence, I had never lived away from home. Then came MBA. Getting into the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade was a dream come true. This was mainly because of two reasons. Firstly, I had given my everything to get here and now I had the chance to pursue what I actually wanted to do. Secondly, for the first time in my life I was going to live away from home and experience the hostel life.
On the very first day I met my roommate Ravinder, the body builder in our section who is always in search of opportunities to boast his perfectly toned body. For the entire first week our seniors had planned a personality development program to get us acquainted with the rigors of the MBA life. We were given loads of assignments which were mostly required to be completed within an hour’s deadline. Though initially during that phase the entire batch used to think that what have we done to be treated so harshly, but now when we have a chance to look at it in retrospective we understand what the main purpose of our seniors was: to bring a sense of unity in the batch.
Each and every individual in the new batch got a chance to work with the other during such testing times. This strengthened the batch unity. After the program ended, we finally got a chance to know our seniors in person and now we all know that it is the seniors who’ll help us out throughout this tough first trimester phase in our MBA life.
From the second week, our course classes had to begin. We were divided into three sections. I got section B. On the very first day of the classes I knew that I will make friends for an entire lifetime over here. Sharing a few gags, talking about the upcoming rigors and summer internship processes, the students of our section became a unified unit really soon. One of the best part of being in a top tier business school is the classroom learning you get here is incomparable and priceless. The course structure is such that in between core classes certain workshops are organized for us to make sure that the learning and mind refreshing takes place at the same time. Alongside, the kind of learnings we get during our guest lectures from the leaders of the corporate world gives us a lot of perspective.
Then came the Freshers’ party, enjoyed by all; seniors and juniors equally. The cultural committee “Mélange” organized an excellent day for us and on that particular day we got to know what it meant to represent IIFT. I’m hoping to make great memories over here and enjoy a great campus life. I just can’t wait to see what more this institute has in the offing for us.

I wish Aditya Birla Group is a start of things going to the next level for me. If given a chance to work in an ABG company of my choice, I would like to work for Idea Cellular. I’ve previously worked in the telecommunication domain at Ericsson so I have some idea about what the domain expects from an employee at decision making positions. Also, this is an exciting time to join a company like Idea Cellular with the recent merger announcement of the company with Vodafone-India.
