First Job

It was 19th December, 2017, Aditya Birla Group had visited the campus of IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, I was the first one to be interviewed, it was going to be the first interview of my life, went in with a lot of mixed feelings, the interview went well. I came out went to my room anxiously waiting for the results. The waiting seemed to have no end. At around 7:30 pm my mobile’s screen flashed, with a WhatsApp message on the placement’s group, my hands trembled while I read the text, I was one of the 8 students who got selected out of almost 50 students who appeared for the process.

I was inducted in the company’s Engineering Leadership Program where we got the opportunity to interact with MD of Hindalco Mr. Satish Pai, and other leaders of the group and learnt a lot from their experiences. Then during our training period at Hindalco’s Renukoot plant, a Corporate Theater was organised which was a completely life changing experience where we were made to enact different roles we are going to play in our life. We were made to depict stories just through postures and expressions, it made us understand how important expressions and body language was in business communication.

At Renukoot we got to organise an event where we all GET got to perform various things, during the event we got to showcase our skills, this event helped us gel up with everyone and develop team spirit and helped me make some of friends for life.

My journey at Hindalco helped me grow as a person, although I had to quit working there but the journey was something I’ll cherish for my entire life. Well to sum it up I came out of ABG but ABG couldn’t come out of me.

It’s said what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. We all have our ups and downs in our life, but how we deal with it is what differentiates us from others. When I was in class 9th we moved to our own hose which constructed at the outskirts of city, and 12 kms away from the central Patna. There’s a canal which passes almost 800m behind a house, during the rainy seasons our area gets completely water logged upto the height of our knees. I had to go to my schools through the same water logged situation. Despite all these I managed to score 95% in my 10th examinations.

When I moved to 11th class I also started to classes for JEE and our school timings were 6:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m. and my coaching timing were 3:30pm to 8pm. As I lived at the outskirts and my school and coaching all were located in central Patna almost 8kms away from my house I had to take wake up at 5 walk 1 km to reach to the main road to get an auto the go to school then come back at 1 pm again walk 1km back to home from main road. Then after having lunch I had to leave at 2 for my coaching again walking a km to reach the main road where I used to get auto. Then I used to come back home at 9 in the night. Despite doing so much of physical activity for 2 complete years I managed to crack JEE advance and get into ISM Dhanbad, that was one moment of happiness that made me feel proud as I was able to make my parents proud for all the sacrifices they made for me didn’t go waste. After that I even got to work with a Maharatna Company Steel Authority of India Limited. And right now I am doing MBA from NITIE Mumbai.
