NMIMS Mumbai had always been in the list of my dream colleges ever since I learnt about MBA. In 2017, I finally decided to take NMAT which is the entrance exam for NMIMS. Besides taking the entrance exams, I also decided to join my family real estate business for work exposure.
Handling work and preparing for the exams at the same time was no easy feat. Moreover, I had never been in that kind of a sheer stressful situation before. I worked hard and pulled all-nighters after tiring days at work. I thought I was doing it all. But when the exams finally got over and the results came out in January, 2018, I found out, to my utter disappointment, that I didn't make the cut. I had calls from other b - schools, but NMIMS Mumbai was something I always had in my mind.
I had people advise me to go ahead with whatever calls I had and take up admission that very year. At one point of time, a lot of self-doubt had crept into my mind. I thought I probably wasn't good enough and should settle with whatever I get. But it was something that my father had said to me, that boosted my confidence. He had said, "Life is all about taking chances, taking a leap of faith. And sometimes, the final outcome of those leaps and chances lie solely on us."
I realised that all I had been doing was complaining and cribbing about how I didn't get in, how I wasn't good enough. What I actually needed to do was find out what went wrong in my preparations and what I was willing to do to turn that to my vantage.
I decided to take matters in my own hands and finally took that leap of faith. I continued working and at the same time prepared for the exams, once again. It was probably the biggest risk I had dared to undertake, given the erratic nature of these examinations.
On 21st February, 2019, — a date that shall be etched in my mind for a long, long time — my perseverance, passion and commitment had finally paid off, and I was finally accepted into my dream college. Life hasn't been a bed of roses as most expect it to be. Every day is still a struggle. But I don't complain now. I only intend to face every challenge thrown at me with a smile on my face and with a more-than-ever resolute mind and heart.
Why The Aditya Birla Group Is Big In My Life
Imagine a world with no buildings, no roads to tread on, no network connectivity, no electricity and most importantly — no food or fashionable clothes. That is a world without Aditya Birla Group. And that is precisely how big Aditya Birla Group is in our lives.
There is a touch of Aditya Birla Group in every fibre of our lives; it has managed to nab every nook and corner — from food, clothes, buildings and roads to healthcare, automotive, banking and technology. Aditya Birla Group is ubiquitous.
Fashion and clothing have always been significant aspects of my life. And all the words in the world fall short to express my gratitude towards Aditya Birla Group for the role they play in this particular industry. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) is literally a fashion powerhouse with some of the biggest brands under its marquee — Pantaloons, Ralph Lauren, Peter England, Allen Solly and Van Heusen to name a few.
Another important product for me is Cement. Coming from a real estate background, cement has always been a daily necessity for our business. UltraTech, which is the largest manufacturer of concrete in India, provides a wide range of products that caters to various aspects of the construction process. Hindalco Industries Ltd., which is one of the leading producers of aluminium and copper, has also played a big role in our business and, consequently, in our lives.
Besides the mentioned industries, Aditya Birla Group has also contributed significantly in other industries like textiles, carbon black, insulators, natural resources, power, agribusiness, telecommunications and financial services, playing a big role on the sustainability of our economy and subsequently helping us lead better lives.
