First impression makes a certain impact on you on the people you get along with at your workplace. A professional appearance is important to create a positive impression. A professional look helps to boost self-confidence and overcome the anxiety of acceptance or ability. Working in a highly complex and competitive environment with highly qualified professionals around me, I was under-confident about performing well. Formal clothing from Peter England and Allen Solly helped me feel positive & confident about myself and which in turn helped me make a strong statement about my personality, ideas, values, knowledge, and abilities. Aditya Birla Group with its creative and different apparel has always helped me feel positive about myself. Whether it be colleg e or work ABG has always had a constant presence in my life.
I was always a diligent student, who used to perform well in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. During my B. Tech, I developed a habit of leaving things to the last moment and taking things lightly. The corporate world demands exactly the opposite, working for an Investment Bank I had to always be on my toes and complete the work efficiently without any errors. To start with, I made it a point to use my commute time to read my emails and news to stay updated on the current happenings. Secondly, I prepared a priority list where I used to write my daily tasks in the descending orders of their priorities. Unless I don’t prioritize my work I feel scattered and cannot concentrate. I started using outlook calendars to keep track of my tasks. I completed the tasks according to their priorities and started doing two quality checks of my reports to avoid any errors. Thirdly, I used to ask my manager for a short biweekly review so that I could improve on so that I can work on my weak points. I started conversing more with people around knowing more about their work and trying to learn from them.
Time management is an important aspect of life, I learned to manage my time between work, studies, and family. I started my day by having breakfast with my parents and interestingly we used to converse a lot about our lives. While working, I was also preparing for MBA entrance tests, so I made it a point to study regularly and manage my time efficiently between studies and work. I was glad that I managed my time efficiently and hence ended up learning a lot at my workplace as well as made it to one of the most prestigious B schools in the country IIFT-Kolkata.
