Part A : ABG touches millions in the world. It is unlikely that you have never used a product, or travelled on a road or visited a site where ABG has not contributed in some way. Its presence in your life is massive. In at least 250 words or more, tell us why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life.
Aditya Birla Group is an organisation par excellence in terms of its performance and contribution in sectors that are extremely crucial in the Indian context and to our psyche. There is a sense of faith associated with ABG that has been ingrained within this generation and I believe, that is testament to their consistent efforts and the drive to cater to customer demands across different sectors, a trait that is not possessed by many conglomerates. Peter England is a brand that is pretty close to my heart due to its longevity and quality at a price that is very reasonable.The Birla Mandir in Delhi is another undertaking that has enhanced ABG's reputation to a great extent and to their credit, the temple is an architectural marvel bar none and the atmosphere inside the premises is so spiritual and calming that it really gives a sense of perspective to me. With the advent of technology and the exponential growth in the telecom sector, Idea has been a solid player in the market. Personally, I really enjoy the adverstisements created by Idea with the signature tune remaining the same for so many years and the overall concept behind the commercials. ABG is a significant player in the cement, iron and aluminium industry as well, which is an underrated aspect but equally important for our country since we are a developing nation and construction activities to upgrade infrastructure has been a big part of the development process and ABG, due to its sustained presence in this industry is a significant contributor to the developmental process. For me, these things aren't a direct part of my life but I do recognize their role in nation building and therefore, ABG is a big part of my life and there is a great chance that once I get into the corporate world, it could play an even bigger role.
Part B At the core of the ABGLP program are people who drive to make an impact, irrespective of what challenges they face. Tell us, in at least 250 words, how you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
Challenges are an integral part of an individual's life and how we face those challenges forms an important part of our conditioning.Overcoming challenges helps us fulfill our ambitions. I am really passionate about sports and a part of the reason for that is because sports is a really good example of how people deal with challenges and watching them go about doing it is a source of inspiration to me. My ambitions in life were to achieve a level of competency with whatever I did as part of my education. In India, there is a great deal of emphasis on an individual's Class 10th and Class 12th performance and the pressure during that period is immense. In my case, there weren't many expectations due to my mediocre performance in earlier exams so that did ease some pressure but simultaneously, there was an urge to do well and prove that I could bring my best when it matters the most. There were some minor family problems during that period that were a distraction but that only encouraged me more and I realized that excuses won't help me much later on so it was imperative for me to rise to the occasion and focus on the present during those crucial moments.
As a result, I performed much better compared to what was expected of me and therefore, gained a great sense of confidence in my own ability which was put to use during the CAT exam which was another challenge considering I didn't take any guidance for it and drew my own strategies as to how to approach the exam. Additionally, I was in my 7th semester of engineering and had dropped out of campus placement process which was a great risk considering that I would have no options if I didn't perform as per expectations which eventually spurred me on during the tough times. I believe that I took a calculated risk at that moment taking everything into account and those moments really helped me bring out my decision making abilities in challenging situations and not getting bogged down by what others might say or think.
