PART A

Why ABG is big part in my life?

Aditya Birla Group, an Indian multinational conglomerate, headquartered in Worli, Mumbai, India operates in 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees worldwide. And there are few industries that ABG hasn’t had a hand in. They have major presence in variety of sectors such as non-ferrous metals, cement, textile, fashion, carbon black, telecom, financial, etc., People all over the country use ABG products knowingly or unknowingly every day.

I did my B.Tech. in Apparel Technology from Anna University and there is nothing more of a dream company for a person in textile field to work in than Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. My entire undergraduate was spent on apparels and brands and when you think of the first brands that comes to a person’s mind in India when asked about clothing brands are Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England, etc., They may not know that they are Indian brands or a part of ABFRL but they know it’s presence even if they have never bought it. That is how much of an impact ABFRL has. The uniqueness of them is that they don’t make their brands famous by publicizing their group name but they have made it famous by banking on their products. They still hold the name Madura Fashions & Lifestyle from Madura Garments without changing it and many are still not aware of the change. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t care, it’s actually the opposite cause they let their products do the talking. All of these have made Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail of ABG my dream company to work at.

PART B

Challenges overcome by me

I am an only child and my parents never differentiated or restricted me just because I was a girl. They gave freedom to do what I want which I never misused. But that didn’t mean they don’t have expectations of me. While others in my family were saving money for their daughter’s wedding my father saved money for my studies. This was a lot a lot of pressure. I am smart but I’m not a topper. My 10th exam score was good but that still lesser than a lot in my school. My parents were not particularly happy about it. Then came 12th, based on my past record we were expecting a score above average but I was one of the top 10 in my school and got into the best non IIT institution in the country i.e. Anna University. I was delighted, got good scores the first year then got a bit comfortable and let my scores drops in the second year and even got one backlog in my third year. That was my wake up call. But no matter what I did I could not boost my CGPA as it was already a bit late and I was also preparing for CAT during that time. I got a decent score in CAT 2018, but it wasn’t enough good enough for the top colleges. My parents who were supportive of me till then started feeling anxious and even I got a bit disappointed. And when we thought there is nothing that can be done this year, my XAT results came out and it was a really good score. My parents and I were delighted but still there were the hurdle of interviews. And finally, I got an offer from IMT, Ghaziabad I felt that I’ve succeeded but there came another challenge. Everyone in my family other than my father was against me leaving for Ghaziabad and even I felt a bit scared since I can’t speak Hindi. But I passed all of these challenges, got up when I fell and here, I am, at one of the top Business schools in the country writing an article to woo one of the biggest companies in India to our college.
