Part A – Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life

Aditya Birla Group is the 3rd largest multi-national conglomerate in India with interests in almost every touchpoint of life we can think of. It is difficult for a citizen not to have had an attachment with the brand in any way. Let it be the cement (the largest producer in India) that builds our houses or the clothes we wear or the mobile network we are subscribed to or even an awesome friend we have who is from an educational institute of the Birla Group. ABG grounds itself on the footing of 5 values: Integrity, Commitment, Passion, Seamlessness & Speed which has helped propel them into the position they are in.

I previously worked in the automotive sector in the Aftersales domain. My association with ABG was through Aditya Birla Insurance Brokers Limited (ABIBL), who was the broking agency for the company driven automobile Insurance Package. The packages were meant to enhance the customer experience by additional value generation for lower premiums customers shelled out. ABIBL had been an instrumental partner; primarily in reinforcing the faith of the customers in the program by ensuring expedited settlement of claims and assisting in certain special cases. ABIBL’s influence in revamping the bodyshop operations across the service network of the company also could not be understated. We could reduce any bottlenecks caused by the paperwork with the calculated and regular interventions of ABIBL mediating between dealerships & the insurance companies. This helped reduce the Turn-Around-Time for delivery.

Part B –  How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far

My biggest achievement in life has been evolving from a person shy & scared of articulating to audiences to presenting regional business strategy in a Zonal Conference to an audience of 200+ including the senior management of my ex-Company. Glossophobia had been a running trait thoughout my childhood & adult life. I was deprived of the chance to become School Captain in my HSS which became a turning point in my life. I would join Uni-Y in college & go on to attend several debate competitions. There were occasions where I went blank speaking to audiences; yet my persistence to overcome the challenge kept me going. My stint at a popular youth volunteer network & the E-Cell of my college gave me more opportunities to improve my articulation skills. There were bad presentations & good ones. With every setback, I took baby steps towards my goal. It was a personal reform that came about without my awareness. The confidence level grew every time I spoke to an audience.

I have even gone on to mentor several students in shelter homes & schools on public speaking and overcoming glossophobia. And when the opportunity came knocking at my workplace in the form of the offer to present in front of the senior management, there were no second thoughts. When the audience clapped as I wound up my presentation, I realized I had tamed one of my greatest nightmares.

Overcoming the challenge was one of the most instrumental things that ever happened to me. It helped me become a better team player, influence teams & individuals and succeed in my workplace. This trait of pushing boundaries to achieve the impossible is what I think resonates my personality with that of ABG’s.
