PART A

Aditya Birla Group is one of the biggest Indian conglomerates which have made a significant impact over the entire world. It operates in 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees. However, ABG is not only about making money but it also adheres itself towards sustainable development of the weaker sections of society. It believes in trusteeship of management i.e, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It diligently contributes to the social and economic aspects of the fragile sections of the society.

There are many day-to-day routine activities that are linked with the ABG for me.

First, being an MBA student, I am pretty well versed with the significance of formal wear and business formals. ABG’s companies like Allen Solly, Peter England, Van Heusen and Louis Phillipe provide us an exclusive range of products in optimal price ranges. Among the brands of clothing, I prefer Louis Phillipe the most.

Second, ABG’s telecom venture Idea cellular which on 31 August 2018 Idea completed its merger with Vodafone India and thereby became largest telecom company in terms of subscribers and revenue, surpassing Airtel. It ensures that we have hassle free to and fro communication with our family, friends etc. In this modern world of technologies, the 4G internet ensures that we get uninterrupted internet connection which I believe is now one of the most essential requirements in our everyday life.

Third, UltraTech Cement India’s largest cement company speaks for its volume. It has been a regularly and widely used cement for various construction works. Recently, my house has been constructed in Ranchi in which I suggested to use UltraTech Cement after reviewing and seeing positive feedbacks.

Fourth, the most important part being ABG’s measures in serving towards our society and country not only economically but culturally as well. Its CSR activities like ‘Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya’ to spread literacy, helping especially abled ones, spreading awareness regarding AIDS etc. certainly helps the society at large.

This is how Aditya Birla Group is big in my life

Part B

The instance where I felt that odds were against me is during my IIT-JEE preparations. I gave my first attempt of IIT-JEE in the year 2009, where I got 203 marks and cut off for general candidates was 229 and for OBC was 207. I had applied under OBC category that year and fell short by 4 marks. After this, I went to Kota and joined ‘Career Point’ coaching institute for my preparations. The course was quite rigorous, as expected, as two years of content has to fit inside the student in matter of 10 months. However, I was consistently ranked among top 10 students within our coaching institute. As this institute was primarily know for preparation of AIEEE exam, they organized a special batch of only 10 students to secure higher ranks in IIT-JEE. All was going well; I finished my coaching and came back home to take the exam. This year I had applied as general candidate for the test.
A week before the test, I went along with my parents to visit the temple on the banks of Ib (tributary of Mahanadi) river. While going down the stairs, I felt dizzy and became restless. I could not stand and fainted. Next time when I woke up, I was in the hospital. The reason was my haemoglobin level came down to range of 6 to 7 from the normal range of above 13 for men. 2 units of blood was injected into me so as to improve my situation. The results were not as good, as I was still having issues with health, constant fever with less than 3 days to go for the exam. The doctors were asking my parents to reconsider whether I can avoid the exam. Hearing this I told my parents to anyhow allow me to take the test. 2 days before, my health somewhat improved and we left for the preferred city, Ranchi, where I took my exam. On the examination day, 1st 3-hour session went quite well for me but during the 2nd session, I again started getting fever and headache. I could not concentrate on the questions and I decided to attempt only those question types I am familiar with and uses less of interpretation and calculation. I finished the paper and came out. I left with parents to our hotel, same day they had to get me admitted to the hospital in Ranchi itself due to criticality of my situation. I was hospitalized for a week and it took me around a month to fully recover.
I got my results and secured 4.5k rank, not as good like that of my batch 107, 129, 1.1k ad 2.1 k, but still I was fine. I got admission in IIT Bhubaneswar, near to home and quite good faculty base.
