Bringing further laurels to the institute, a final-year student of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (SIBM Pune), Nipun Matreja, is among only two Indians chosen through the Internet For All Challenge to represent the nation at the Telenor Youth Forum. The Forum, organised in association with the Nobel Peace Center, will take place in Norway in December 2014.
You’re an alumnus of SIBM Pune – the 1987 batch. What was your greatest learning while here?
Are you not able to influence people? Do you find difficulty in executing operations in hostile environments? Or do you get confused between your friends and foes? These are all common business dilemmas that have answers in one of the most religiously followed TV Series: A Game of Thrones. An adaptation of the famous novel A Song of Ice and Fire, written by George R.R. Martin, this wonderfully crafted TV series has become synonymous with strategy, lust and bloodshed. Here are some of the lessons that one can learn from GoT:
Most people who have made to B-school following a stint at an IIT would reckon that getting through such reputed institutions was a task unto itself. Most of us though, happen to be able bodied people. What about people who suffer from debilitating medical circumstances? I had the opportunity of talking to one such person in my batch who is one of the handful of people in this world who suffer from autoimmune disorders - he also happens to have laurels like an IIT degree, work experience at TATA Motor Finance, a seat in XLRI-BM and a PPO from Flipkart under his belt. In the times of increasing competition, all the colleges have started to look for building a strong competitive sustainable advantage for themselves. IIM Kashipur, keeping up with the changing times, started expanding its reach into international markets by starting a student exchange programme with a couple of French Universities. First time, 6 students were sent to complete a term (out of the 6 they were supposed to complete according to their academic curriculum) in France.
MISB Bocconi hosted the Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance this year from January 8th to 10th 2015 in Mumbai. It was co-orgainzed by SDA Bocconi, School of Management and the Indian School of Business. The event was sponsored by Pwc.The conference hosted some brilliant minds from across the world. The first day saw stalwarts like Prof.Kashi Balachandran (NYU Stern), Prof. Joshua Ronen (NYU Stern) and Prof. Andrea Dossi (SDA Bocconi). However, our focus will be on the interesting panel discussion on Day 2 on - "Transparency in Corporate India : How do governance issues matter for restarting economic growth"
Our world today is extremely fast-paced, competitive, and ambitious. We work hard – very hard – for money, for recognition, for appreciation, and even at times, for a better appraisal. That is all perfectly fine and that is how it should be too. We all study diligently, try to get into the best of institutes, and perform to the best of our abilities all in the hope of a great career. So when we finally embark upon that journey, it is only logical that we put in all that we have to give. But is that all? Does being successful ensure peace of mind? This is what I aim to throw light upon. Of course, my insights are completely my own and are derived from my experiences so far.
